Okay, so start-ups can be a challenge and do all sorts of damage to your psyche. Due to the amount of time it takes to make some of my candle holders, I've decided not to promote them by themselves (so you can no longer find them on Etsy).

Instead, I am currently involved with curating/building something special, specifically for weddings. I am playing around with the name Big Country Mesquite Wedding Collection, and it will package together finished, live-edge mesquite slabs, mesquite turned candle holders, live-edge mesquite votive candle holders, old-fashions oil lanterns stuffed with fairy lights, and accent cheesecloth table runners.

How to order | Important Notes

A non-refundable deposit of $250 (covering design and branding iron development) is required for work to begin. Work with Big Country Mesquite's team to create a brand that is reflective of your style, or use your own. Careful steps are taken to create precisely what you want: no brand will be created without your full approval.

Turn-around is about four weeks--a minimum of three weeks from the day you approve the brand.

Font selection is an important part of the process. Thicker substantial fonts will work better than small detailed fonts. Big Country Mesquite will be happy to help you with font selection as part of the design process.

Take note: Every piece will be different with nicks, dips, holes, scars, rough spots, cracks, and other marks considered to be enhancements in wood-based work that provide detail and character. These perfections project the chaotic and beautiful state of nature--complex, unexpected and rugged--and truly reflects “country style” where the beauty is inherent, simple and real.

Any number of coasters may be ordered after the deposit is paid. The final branding iron will be included with the delivery of coasters. Ask about bulk purchase discounts for orders of 100 or more.

Payments may be submitted via secure ACH or Credit Card transactions. Shipping (fees included) is generally via UPS unless otherwise requested.

A Name Change
Hello friends. We have had some set-backs and were obligated to hit a reset button. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have changed the name of our business to – perhaps a more exciting – Big Country Mesquite.

If you are a Texan, Big Country has a bit of meaning. To Steven and I, it is our home: a place of big open ranches, vast picturesque skies, and a place where heart and passion is an integral part of the human character. We join the many people who live in this sometimes desolate space in loving the country and enjoying our lives here.

MISSION The Big Country Mesquite mission is to offer up beautiful wood-based decor to enhance the living experience. Big Country Mesquite pieces can be used anywhere in the home – tables, nooks, mantles, bookshelves, curios, buffet and side tables, or wherever a piece might fit in your home or office. New Candleholders Coming

Thinking about what could make a rustic or country themed setting more amazing, I have decided to add candleholders to the mix. I think adding them to a collection along with brass or gold candlesticks and other wood pieces would be a great overall experience. This candleholder is about 12 inches tall. I love the feeling of height in table decor, so I'll mix up sizing along with other elements for the package.

Rustic Wedding Tabletop Pieces In Action

After a few months of experimentation, trial and error, we completed a first, then second and eventually fifteenth set of wood pieces. Each set is comprised of one approximately 15" and one approximately 7" wood piece.

Steven began the selection process and, as a chain saw-totin' dude, hand cut each piece. After we got the pieces home, he hand-sanded each before we both worked to Tung oil, re-sand, steel-wool and reoil each piece. Mesquite, as other woods, is prone to wood-boars and we experimented with treating and beating back the little critters.

The final result? Thirty beautiful pieces ready for transport to Pennsylvania for my daughter's big event.

A Business Opportunity Awaits

Simultaneous to my exciting year and my new married life, my daughter was also preparing to wed her college beau. Her's would be more traditional with all the trimmings -- a beautiful dress, a full venue, lovely surroundings and invitations to all the immediate and extended family members.

I'm so proud of my baby girl, who took on planning and preparations as a right of passage. Together with her fiance, the two collaborated and drove the entire process. She reached out to me, my mom, her fiance's mom and friends when they wanted to have input on decisions, but they really did it all.

They did, however, ask us for help with table decor, a task that we were happy to take on. They had a vision to pair wood pieces with simple florals. We embraced the challenge and experimented with Mesquite wood.
