Dahlia tip of the day 😊🌸

Want to help your dahlias bloom MORE??
If we remove the lower leaves OFF the stems at the base of the plant, it provides more oxygen flow around the plant. When that happens our dahlias grow more stems, buds, & BLOOMS 🌸

Good Morning!
Spartan Red is our 20th blooming dahia 😍
He looks like the darkest red velvet crimson. His petals in this video aren’t even completely open yet.
Stunning shape & color!
With these larger size blooms, it takes almost a full two weeks for the flower to fully open. It’s an amazing process to observe.
He would not be my first choice if I wanted to make a bouquet that was to last a full seven days
However, if there was a special event that needed a wow showcase Dahlia he’s the one!

Dahlia #19 is KA Keltie Rose
She is perfect in so many ways!
Perfectly pink 3” wide bloom that holds its shape for longer than most dahlias in arrangements.
I think this is the most prolific bloomer in my collection until we get a really hard frost.
As the nights get cooler., her pink color, softens, and becomes lighter.

I’m so excited it’s Dahlia season!! 🤩
I’m loving the pictures people are sending me of the dahlias they are growing.!!

I have a lot of new flower friends that are growing Dahlias for the first time. 💗This!!
So I thought I would provide some helpful tips to growing your dahlias. 

Here’s the dahlia tip of the day
Let’s talk about dead heading or removing the dahlia blooms that are done & why it’s so important.
1 - removing dead blooms promotes MORE dahlias to grow!!
2 -you can cut the blooms to create a bouquet for yourself or someone special OR you can let your dahlia bloom in your garden & cut it or dead head it off the stem after it’s done blooming.

Dead head or remove old blooms at least once a week & your dahlia will continue grow more stems & provide you with more BLOOMS!!! 😊🌸

🌸🌸 Zinnia of the Day is a big FLUFFY pastel princess!!
This is a Ballerina zinnia. I purchased the seeds from Johnny's Selected Seeds.
This is my 3rd year growing this variety and it blows my mind every single year! The layers of petals, the variety in soft blush pink to peach & sometimes neutral linen is astonishing. Ohh & the SIZE of most of the blooms are almost bigger than your hand.

Tonight I’m introducing you to the tallest Black eyed Susan or Rudbeckia I grow. This is Triloba 
This is a Native Perennial & can get over 5’ tall if it’s in full sun. It has your traditional black-eyed Susan colors in miniature size blooms on branching stems. So cute! You only need a couple branches in a vase to make a nice flower arrangement.

The pollinators love to visit Triloba!
When the blooms finish, you can choose to trim back the branching stems to the base of the plant, OR you choose to wait till the spring before you trim back the branches so the birds can enjoy the seeds all winter long. (that’s what I do!) 🌻

This is a very hardy native perennial that will take up a significant area of your garden and come back a year after year!
