☀️ Bluebonnet Socks ~ pattern now available ☆

Bluebonnet flowers are the first sign of spring in Texas. They’re the state flower and give the most vibrant blue color to green fields. I designed these
socks as an entry for the 2025 State Fair of Texas Arts & Crafts Contest and won first place for Original Design. I wanted a sock design that felt truly Texan and showcased the beauty of these flowers under the warm sun. ☀️

• Two heel options give you the choice to go full Texan with the state flag on the heel or work a classic solid color.

• The picot cuff adds a touch of whimsy to the sun shining on the bluebonnets.

Kits available from West 7th Wool starting next week with the North Texas Yarn Crawl ♡

Thanks to my cheerleaders on this one! ♡

📸 Taking great photos for your knitting patterns
can be TOUGH. It looks so easy when you see
great pics for other patterns you admire. I
frequently say “Ok, I can do that!” and then can
never seem to capture the magic of the moment.
I learned a lot after taking pictures for my
Bluebonnet Socks. Are they perfect? No. Are
they better than what I’ve taken before? YES.

Here are 4 simple tips that helped me:

1. Choose a quiet spot.
I get so embarrassed to take my picture with knitting things. Even at a yarn shop where everyone there LOVES yarn. But if I’m alone and am not worried about someone ‘seeing’ me, I can think through it a bit more and make sure I have what I
need before I leave the site. And if you don’t mind others around when you’re taking pictures – AMAZING!

2. Be near natural light – best at early morning or close to sunset.
The midday sun is so harsh in pictures. Find that magic hour when the light feels
soft. That goes for inside pictures, too. Be near a window without direct sun.

3. Zoom out.
I always seem to take pictures too closely for knits. If I want to slightly zoom or adjust the angle later, it just doesn’t work. But if you take it from farther away, you can still zoom in for your final crop and
choose how much of the background you want.

4. Be creative with your location.
If you want to ‘set the scene’ for your knits, think of what’s in the background. For my Bluebonnet Socks, I wanted bluebonnets and greenery. The best spot? My small town’s water treatment facility parking lot flag pole. The local Master Gardener’s group keeps a tiny but pretty space there, and it checked all the boxes for what I needed. I stopped on my way to
get a grocery order, and the pictures were perfect for an amateur photographer like me!

Don't be afraid to start, just get started ☆

Let's level up your pattern writing! A few added words in your pattern in regards to needle sizes and gauge can make a BIG difference for makers and their success with your pattern.

Knitting patterns that call for smaller needles in ribbing sections can mystify newer makers. If they use a different size MAIN needle to match gauge, they may not realize they should probably adjust their ribbing needle as well.

My suggestion? Include the phrase "Or X sizes smaller than gauge needle." when listing the smaller needle. (Usually ribbing is 2 sizes smaller.)

Hope this gets you thinking about places we can help makers get the most success out of your pattern! -Kim

P.S. Every pattern is different. Think about what YOUR pattern requires and how it's best presented.

2 years & 200+ patterns 🎉 About 2 years ago I finished studying tech editing and told myself it was time to find my first clients. I was convinced I wouldn't find any errors within the first few jobs and therefore what would be my purpose editing? But I worked up the courage to essentially cold call here on Instagram and she, whether she knew it or not, was my first official yes!

Since then I've somehow edited over 200 patterns and worked with some *dream* clients. It means the world to me that I've worked with soooo many of my clients multiple times over the last 2 years! I've learned an incredible amount of knowledge about knitting techniques and what works best for written patterns. And there's so much more to know!

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO I'VE WORKED WITH SO FAR! I genuinely get the giggles when you email me with a new pattern or tag me in a pic here. I think of tech editing as your last stop for a good pep talk before introducing your pattern to testers and the world. I'm in your corner and believe in each and every one of your designs.

And to MY cheerleaders - thank you for your kind words and encouragement! Other tech editors, mentors helping me figure out the business side of things, knitting pals now all around the world -- ♡♡♡

What's coming in 2026? Grading services and schematic illustrations.

What's a dream goal for 2026? Hire me as your technical editor for your book! :)

Can't wait to see what keeps developing ☀️ This sign in the picture was a table display my husband made for me when I did my first market in 2018 (?) in Bloomington, IN. Proudly displayed at home all the time now!

It was this weekend and I *so* enjoyed wandering and seeing some old yarn friends and making new ☆ This year I went with zero patterns in mind and just tried see what yarn I liked, and I can't wait to cast on these new projects.

*Spooky Socks by with yarn (and all-Indiana sock that I'll love to remember our years in Bloomington with!)

*Makepeace Shawl by .wool with Barker Wool (I've seen the Assigned Pooling pattern samples every year I've attended and this pattern spoke to me!)

I also got some other gifting goodies and needle punch art kits that will be so fun to try.

• Loved seeing & to chat editing, to cheer me (again!) on my TX State Fair-winning socks this year, meeting .wool and so many more - happy yarning!

Happy pattern day to ◇TEA TIME◇ from ! The cable pattern and silhouette on this one are stunning. I really enjoyed this edit and imagining how the shaping comes together with the cable -- plus I 100% can imagine this in my wardrobe ♡

• Introducing Tea Time! Timeless, nostalgic, and breezy — Tea Time is my favorite new mild weather layer made for everyday wear! In celebration of my newest release get Tea Time for 20% OFF this week!

Tea Time’s silhouette is based on a well-loved J.Crew cotton sweater, replicating the silhouette and imbuing it with pleasing and simple cables and eyelets for a vintage-leaning, always elegant, warm weather top. After wearing it for the past two months, I can say it is my go-to layer to pair with dresses, skirts, and high-waisted pants.

Knowing not everyone is a long sleeve sweater girlie in the summer, Tea Time sports TWO sleeve options — long and tee shirt — for your climate and comfort preferences. The long sleeves are made flat and seamed, while the tee shirt ribbing is picked up at the armhole and worked in the round from the top down for quick and simple finishing.

Made in luxurious and affordable Candide by , this soft, slightly tweedy, chic yarn creates fabric ideal for those of us who love a breathable layer for mild days on the coast, in the mountains, or anywhere in-between.

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9); 37.5 (40.5, 46.5, 50.5, 53.5, 56.5, 60.5, 66.5, 69.5)” [94 (101.5, 116.5, 126.5, 134, 141.5, 151.5, 166.5, 174) cm] finished chest circumference.
