No official tally exists of the number of people who went - and remain - missing in the public lands and National Parks of the United States. An “educated guess” has estimated that number at roughly 1,600 people whose fates still remain a mystery today, and the National Park Service’s Investig...

In December, 1907, John returned to Manhattan to visit his family for Christmas. December 26, 1907, was the last time John Poggenburg Jr. would be seen alive, although accounts vary on where he was last seen and by who. The last contact with Poggenburg was a telephone call to a friend that night around 7pm, stating that he was at Grand Central Station and would be boarding a train within the hour to return to Connecticut. Poggenburg hasn't been seen since.
