Bringing some serious neon energy to the feed for with the Guianan Cock-of-the-rock! 🎨💥🍊

A few bizarre facts about this neon-orange jungle bird:

🍹The Look: Their massive half-moon feather crest looks like a giant orange slice wedged onto the side of a fancy cocktail glass.

🕺The Drama: Up to 50 males gather in the forest to hold aggressive, synchronized dance-offs to win over females.

🤫The Name: Sounds less like a majestic, high-altitude creature and more like a deeply personal, devastating 18th-century insult you’d hurl at your worst enemy.

A bird that looks like a beverage garnish and runs a literal jungle
dance academy was one I had to paint for hosted by !

🔊 Audio on: "Heads Will Roll" by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs not only because I love this song, but because seeing 50 of these guys simultaneously out-dancing each other would make anyone's head roll.

Meet Mango, the official store lovebird 🦜✨

I painted this oil portrait for her 3rd birthday coming up later this month. I can't wait to hand-deliver it to her! Though I'm actually wondering whether she will recognize herself or just try to chew on the frame. 😂

While lovebirds aren’t on the official prompt list for , this year's theme hosted by is all about celebrating colorful birds with a rainbow theme. Naturally, I thought Mango fit in perfectly to kick things off! 🌈

"Cardinals appear when Angels are near." ❤️❄️

There is a beautiful reason why so many people feel a deep connection to these birds. While other species lose their minds and fly south, the male cardinal stays put, rocking vivid crimson feathers that stand out like a bright beacon against the cold winter snow. They’ve always been loved as spiritual messengers, nature's way of sending a little text alert that a loved one is safe and watching over you.

This particular cardinal in the snow was a special birthday gift for a dear friend of my mom’s. We took her out to The Capital Grille over the weekend to celebrate, and I am so happy to report that she absolutely loved it! Swipe to see a few photos from our celebration.

The timing for a girls' weekend was actually perfect. My husband was busy competing in the intensive 48 Hour Film Project: Detroit, so I stayed with my mom. We have a great system of giving each other total freedom and zero distractions when a big creative project hits, so it was officially his turn to have a quiet house to create while we went out to celebrate.

There is something so special about celebrating a legacy of friendship and love. I hope this piece brings her warmth and comfort all year round. Happy Birthday! 🎉🥳
