Bellingham Flower Farm Pistils and Mavericks both had podium finishes in the race this weekend. Our ladies team had a big obstacle losing our road biker to severe injuries due to car vs bike accident. We had an epic rider from Seattle fill in with little notice. Expanding our reach to find a rider meant we had to leave our Whatcom women’s division. The ladies won the competitive women’s division and the men were 3rd place in Whatcom county. Such an incredible weekend for both teams. My favorite comment from the crowd was “all those farmers are really good at sports”😂

We will be back next year for more Ski to Sea fun
Get well and thank you .kristine for being an amazing teammate on late notice.

Nothing like those before and after pictures to remind you how far you have come. 2 years ago this area was thick with weeds and blackberry. A summer of silage tarp and some good tilling, it became usable. Slowly over 2 fall seasons the perennials were moved from the prior property to this one. Now over 1000 peonies, daffodils, lupine, dianthus and foxglove fill this acre. By nurturing the soil and bringing life back to this land it has rewarded us with these views.

I am overwhelmed by gratitude today. This Mother’s Day weekend was an amazing experience. From a sell out farmers market to hosting hundreds on the farm to celebrate mom. A special thank you to Lisa Sedlar, the CEO of the for being our registration volunteer. It really takes a village. We hope you enjoyed the farm this Mother’s Day and can’t wait to do it again next year.

This is what the month of April looks like at Bellingham Flower Farm. It is the opening of the proverbial flood gates in spring. While the flowers are back, so is the weeding, watering, harvesting a seeding. We all have long days, but wouldn’t trade it for a thing.

Everyone always asks “what is your favorite flower?”.
Simple for me, just like the flower, daffodils. They are often overshadowed by tulips, but are a much more interesting bloom with their trumpets and collars. Such perfect shape and symmetry it’s hard to think they are are “basic”. From singles, to doubles and fragrant to whites they are the harbinger of spring blooms for me.

Enough is enough. After battling horsetail for 2 years we conceded. Trust me, we have tried everything! The closest we got to control was using landscape fabric to manage weeds. Yet, the voles were so intense an entire tunnel of ranunculus and snapdragon were eaten to the ground in 2 months this winter. Fabric is not option. It just provides homes & protection for the voles. The farm has tons of beautiful soil that is horsetail free. It was just time to stop battling the situation and work with land, even if that meant a new hoop. Pivot, we are getting good at it.
