Let’s talk about AI. 💭
As a small business owner, transparency is one of my highest core values across both Dark Ideals and Pie & Sprout Co. With so much conversation, concern, and nuance surrounding artificial intelligence, I want to lay out my exact stance on where I stand and how I operate.
First and most importantly: AI does not belong in the art world. We do NOT use AI to generate artwork, designs, or physical products. Period. Human creativity, handcrafting, and original expression are the backbone of what we do, and that will never change.
Where I do stand on AI:
Strictly for backend operations: I occasionally utilize AI tools for basic administrative tasks, workflow organization, and back-end support—never for creative work.
It’s becoming hard to avoid: Many standard administrative and editing programs have quietly integrated AI features (like automated background removers and software enhancements). Even social media platforms like Meta have begun incorrectly auto-labeling non-AI content, which has hit my pages a few times despite the content with that label being fully human-made.
Mindful of environmental impact: I closely monitor global efforts toward green computing and energy-efficient digital tech (such as initiatives led by the Coalition for Sustainable AI and Green Digital Action). Because protecting the environment is deeply important to me, I advocate for transparency and reduced energy consumption in tech rather than unchecked usage.
I know AI is a polarized topic right now, and I completely respect those who choose to boycott businesses that use it in any capacity. However, because AI technology is here to stay, I believe staying informed, maintaining strict ethical boundaries, and practicing conscious usage is a more responsible approach than pretending it doesn't exist.
