Today we’re celebrating one of the biggest champions of Louisiana music and the driving force behind so many music filled nights in downtown Baton Rouge! 💙

As Director of Live After Five, Inc. and the Baton Rouge Blues Festival , J. Hover works year-round to bring incredible musicians, meaningful experiences, and community-centered events to our city. From supporting local artists to creating spaces where thousands of people can gather around live music, his passion for Louisiana’s music culture is felt in everything he does. 🎤✨

We’re grateful for his leadership, dedication, and unwavering belief in the power of music to bring people together. Baton Rouge is a better place because of it.

As we head into the final Live After Five of our Spring 2026 season, we’ve been reflecting on how special these Friday nights have felt. Week after week, our community showed up ready to dance, celebrate live music, support local vendors, and spend time together in the heart of downtown. ✨

This season has been filled with the kind of energy that reminds us why this tradition has meant so much to BTR for more than 25 years! 💙

Now let’s close it out together one last time this Friday with Rouge Krewe bringing the party to downtown Baton Rouge. 🔥

This Friday, we close out our Spring 2026 Live After Five season with Rouge Krewe bringing the hype to downtown Baton Rouge. 🔥

Known for their high-energy performances and nonstop dancefloor favorites, Rouge Krewe blends pop, rock, funk, and crowd-favorite hits into the kind of show that keeps the plaza moving all night long. From the first song to the final encore, expect a full-on celebration under the lights. ⚡💃🕺

As we wrap up another incredible spring season, we’re feeling especially grateful for every person who has shown up week after week to support live music, downtown Baton Rouge, and this long-standing community tradition 🎤✨

Friday night felt GOOD, Baton Rouge. 🎶💙

From the reggae grooves of Ambush to the nonstop energy of Big Sam’s Funky Nation, downtown was alive with music, dancing, and community all evening long. ⚡

There’s nothing quite like seeing the plaza filled with lawn chairs, families, friends, and people coming together to celebrate live music in the heart of our city. Nights like this are what Live After Five is all about. ✨

Thank you to everyone who came out, danced with us, and made another Friday night downtown one to remember.

Live After Five returns this Friday, May 15, with a lineup built to boogie🔥

Opening the night is Ambush Reggae Band, bringing their signature blend of roots reggae, Caribbean rhythms, and Gulf Coast soul to the plaza. Their smooth grooves, positive energy, and feel-good sound are the perfect way to ease into a Louisiana Friday night. 🌴✨

Then get ready for the explosive energy of Big Sam’s Funky Nation 🎺⚡

Led by powerhouse trombonist Big Sam Williams, this New Orleans-based group blends funk, rock, jazz, brass, and hip-hop into a high-energy live show that keeps crowds moving from start to finish. Loud, proud, and impossible to stand still for, Big Sam’s Funky Nation is guaranteed to bring the party to downtown Baton Rouge. 🔥

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and our shared purpose of Beloved Community.

Live After 5 is proud to gather each season in the shadow of the Baton Rouge’s Martin Luther King Jr. Monument in City Plaza. The sculpture features three emerging cross forms in orange and blue, the monument symbolizes freedom and honors Dr. King’s enduring impact, including his connection to Baton Rouge through the 1953 Bus Boycott.

Rooted in gathering and connection, Live After Five is grateful to take place in a plaza that invites reflection, remembrance, and the continued pursuit of Beloved Community ❤
