Did you know?…

Approximately 5% to 10% of all breast cancer diagnoses are hereditary, caused by inherited gene mutations like BRCA1 or BRCA2. However, having a family history increases risk (about 25%) even without an identified hereditary mutation. If a close relative has had breast cancer, a woman’s risk is higher, and this risk increases significantly with the number of affected relatives.

Scary, of course, but what’s even more alarming is that this means the MAJORITY of women who get diagnosed with BC DO NOT have a familial connection!!! I’ll say that again for those in the back…MOST WOMEN WHO GET BREAST CANCER DO NOT HAVE IT RUN IN THEIR FAMILIES!!! So why are THESE women denied mammograms if they’re under 40? 🧐 Smells like insurance bs to me.

Advocate for yourself. Ask questions. Do not take no for an answer. Get multiple opinions. Doctors are only human, too. Errors can be made. This is real life s**t and it’s your only one so stand up for it. 🤘🏽

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so I’ll be periodically posting some new BC candle ideas throughout the month.

Breast Cancer Stats in the US for 2025 , so far…
Estimated new cases: 316,950 women, 2,800 men
Estimated deaths: 42,170 women, 510 men
Lifetime risk for women: 1 in 8

If you’re under 40, please ask your doctor if you can get a mammogram. There has been a huge rise in cases in younger women. I got diagnosed this year at 39 with NO symptoms or signs. Advocate for yourselves and get tested before it’s too late!
