The Laundry Boat of Pont de Charenton (Le Bateau-lavoir du Pont de Charenton)

Henri Julien Félix Rousseau (May 21, 1844 – September 2, 1910) was a French post-impressionist painter in the Naïve or Primitive manner. He was also known as Le Douanier (the customs officer), a humorous description of his occupation as a toll and tax collector. He started painting seriously in his early forties; by age 49, he retired from his job to work on his art full-time.

Anselmus de Boodt was a Flemish humanist, mineralogist, physician and naturalist. Along with the German known as Georgius Agricola, de Boodt was responsible for establishing modern mineralogy. De Boodt was an avid mineral collector who traveled widely to various mining regions in Germany, Bohemia and Silesia to collect samples. His definitive work on the subject was the Gemmarum et Lapidum Historia (1609).

Tulips in a Vase by Sientje Mesdag-van Houten

Sientje was the eldest of seven children of Derk van Houten and Barbara Elisabeth Meihuizen. She was a strong moral support to her husband, especially when she enthusiastically supported him in 1866, when he gave up his business profession solely for painting. She began to paint in 1871, after she lost her only child, the 8-year old Klaas. Gerkens Arnaud helped her drawing, while her painting was aided by her husband and her cousin Lawrence Alma-Tadema. She specialized in landscapes and still lifes, but also painted portraits.
