Day 3 of our 30 Day Blessing Bags

Today we are focusing on paper goods and basic everyday supplies. These are simple items, but they can make a big difference for someone who is living without stable housing.

Items like paper plates, bowls, plasticware packs, paper towels, toilet paper, and trash bags help people eat, clean up, and take care of small daily needs that many of us never have to think about. When someone is trying to get through the day without a home, even these basic items can be hard to come by.

These supplies help bring a little dignity and practicality to someone’s day. A plate to eat from, utensils to use, paper towels to clean up, and even a trash bag to keep their belongings or clean up their space may seem small, but to someone struggling, they matter.

Every item donated goes directly into the blessing bags we distribute to individuals in need throughout our community.

If you would like to help, you can donate items directly from our lists.

Day 2 of our 30 Day Blessing Bag Drive

Today we are focusing on first aid and health items that can be incredibly helpful for someone spending long hours outside or walking throughout the day. Living in Georgia, we all know how bad the mosquitos can get, especially during the warmer months, so items like mosquito wipes can make a big difference in helping someone get a little relief.

For Day 2 we are collecting items such as mosquito wipes, bandages, bandaids, antibacterial ointment, instant cold packs, alcohol wipes, gauze, cotton balls, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol wipe pads, and other basic first aid supplies. These items help treat small cuts, scrapes, bites, and other minor injuries that can quickly become bigger problems if they are not cleaned or cared for properly.

When we prepare blessing bags, we try to include practical items that help someone take care of themselves when they may not have easy access to medical supplies. Something as simple as a bandage or antiseptic wipe can help prevent infection and provide some comfort when someone needs it most.

There may be additional items on our wish lists that fall into this same category as well, so feel free to look through them and donate any of the first aid or health related items you see there.

Day 1 of our 30 Day Blessing Bag Drive

Today we are kicking off something special for The 1:9 Mission. Over the next 30 days we will be sharing items that go into the blessing bags we distribute to people in our community who are facing difficult circumstances. These bags are filled with practical items that help meet immediate needs and remind someone that they are not forgotten.

Day 1 focuses on food items for our blessing bags.

Many individuals experiencing homelessness or hardship do not always have access to hot meals, refrigeration, or consistent food. Because of that, we focus on items that are easy to carry, easy to open, and ready to eat. These simple items can provide much needed nourishment and energy for someone who may not know when their next meal will come.

Some of the food items currently on our list include protein bars, granola bars, cereal bars, applesauce packs, Slim Jims, crackers, tuna packs, Pop Tarts, and other ready to eat canned foods. These are all items that can be safely stored in a blessing bag and eaten without needing cooking or preparation.

Each blessing bag we prepare includes food and water so the person receiving it has something they can use right away. It may seem like a small thing, but something as simple as a snack and a bottle of water can make a big difference in someone’s day.

If you would like to help with Day 1 of our Blessing Bag Drive, you can donate any of the food items listed above. You can also purchase items directly from our Walmart Wish List and they will be sent straight to us to include in our blessing bags.

Community Outreach Update from The 1:9 Mission

Right here in Cobb County, there are people sleeping in the woods, near rivers, and in places most of us will never see.

Over the next 30 days, The 1:9 Mission will be focusing heavily on a community outreach effort right here in Cobb County.

Today, I was sent an article about the annual Point-in-Time homeless count that takes place each January. The report said 448 individuals were counted in Cobb County that night, with 157 people found living outside in wooded areas, near rivers, railroad tracks, and other hidden places. Even those involved in the count acknowledged that the real number is likely higher because many people living in camps or hidden areas are not always found during that one-night count.

Knowing full well there are people in our own community who are struggling every single day, and many of them feel invisible.

Because of that, The 1:9 Mission will be spending the next 30 days preparing for a community outreach. Our goal is to reach our donation goal by the third week of April so that we can begin scheduling days and times to go out into the community to distribute the items and connect with people who need encouragement and support.

During this outreach we will be distributing blessing bags, hygiene items, protein pack bags, clothing, shoes, and other practical items to people we encounter.

We also know how intense the Georgia summers can be, especially for people living outside. The heat can become dangerous very quickly, so part of this outreach is about planning ahead. We want to begin gathering items now that will help people get through the summer months.

At the same time, we will not forget the cancer community. The 1:9 Mission was started in honor of my sister Tracy, who fought an eight-year battle with cancer. Even during her own battle, she always had a heart for helping others. Because of that, our mission has always been to encourage and support people facing difficult battles, whether that is cancer, homelessness, or any life circumstance where someone simply needs hope, encouragement, and practical help.

Over the next few days, we will be posting our Amazon and Walmart wish lists with the specific items we need to prepare blessing bags, protein packs, and care items for this outreach.

When putting these lists together, we intentionally added items at different price points so that anyone who would like to help can participate. No matter the amount, every donation makes a difference and helps us reach someone in need.

If you have items at home that match things on the wish lists and would like to donate them, we would gladly accept those as well. Many items do not need to be brand new. Clean clothing, shoes, socks, backpacks, and other practical items that are still in good condition can make a big difference to someone who has very little.

If you would like to help, you can purchase items directly from the lists or reach out if you would prefer to donate items you already have. If you could, please consider sharing this post so others in our community can also be part of helping someone in need.

We currently have 355 followers on this page. If each person who sees this post would simply share it, the reach and impact could grow far beyond what we can do alone. A simple share can help this message reach someone who may want to help, donate, or get involved in making a difference in our community.

Together, we can make sure people in our community know they are seen, they are valued, and they are not alone.

UPDATE!

Yesterday Miami was able to get a day labor job and earned $100. Lovi reached out asking if The 1:9 Mission could combine what he earned with the funds that had already been donated and allocated to them in order to cover one full week at the extended stay. Because of those designated donations and his effort to work, we were able to secure the room through February 19th. After that date, if additional funds are not received, they will have to pack their belongings back into their two carts and return to the pavilion.

Miami has an appointment with the DMV on Tuesday, and we are hopeful he will be able to obtain his Georgia driver’s license. If you all would pray that everything goes smoothly for him that day, we would truly appreciate it. Once that is taken care of and he has the proper identification for employment, he will be able to continue accepting higher paying day labor jobs with different individuals or companies and also pursue a steady full time job without the obstacle of not having valid identification.

When I met Lovi at the extended stay yesterday to pay the difference with the donations allocated for them. She explained again that her check comes in on the 25th and that it all goes to lodging, and once that runs out they have to pack up and move back to the pavilion. She called it the homeless dance and she’s ready to stop dancing! I explained to her that we will continue taking donations specifically for them through the month of February. Our hope is that whatever is donated can be combined with her check so they can remain in the extended stay for the full month. By that time, with his license secured and steady income coming in, the goal is for them to become self sufficient in maintaining the room on their own.

At that point, The 1:9 Mission would then continue to support them with tangible donations in other areas such as hygiene products, food, and clothing, as those items are donated to the foundation, while they work toward greater stability.

Right now there is a little over $100 remaining from previous donations made specifically for Miami and Lovi, and that will go directly toward their next night if needed. Every donation that comes through marked for them is set aside only for them. We would love to raise enough additional donations to keep them in the room until her check comes in on the 25th so they do not have to leave on the 19th or 20th.

Miami continues to say yes whenever someone offers work, and he takes whatever day labor opportunities he can get. Lovi said they are not asking for anything lavish, just stability and the basics, even if that means extended stay living long term. Lovi shared that once they are fully back on their feet, she wants to share their testimony and be involved in helping others the same way they have been helped.

If you would like to donate to help keep them off the streets and from sleeping under the pavilion again, I know they would greatly appreciate it. You can give through our Cash App at $the19mission. Please be aware that Cash App charges a 2.6% plus $0.15 processing fee on each payment we receive. If you would like Miami and Lovi to receive the full amount you donate, please consider adding enough to cover that deducted amount. For donations received through yesterday, The 1:9 Mission covered the processing fees so Miami and Lovi would receive the full amount that was given for them. If you prefer to donate by check or cash, you may mail a check, or if you are local, we can arrange to meet so I can pick up the check or cash, and you will receive a receipt for any cash donation for your records.

We will stay in contact daily with Miami and Lovi and I will continue updating as we get closer to February 19th. Thank you to everyone who has given specifically toward them. Your generosity is the reason they are not sleeping under the pavilion this week. We are truly grateful for every single person who has prayed, shared, and given. What may feel small to you is life changing to someone trying to get off the streets and into stability. Thank you for standing with them and for believing in what The 1:9 Mission is doing.

Lovi asked if we could take a picture in front of where they will be staying so everyone could see the direct impact of your generosity. She was so incredibly grateful for each of you and kept saying thank you over and over.

Also, today is Miami’s birthday🎉🎂🥳If you would like to send him some birthday wishes in the comments, I am sure that would mean a lot to him.

Today Jamie went out to check on one of the people we helped last week, and while she was in Mableton she came across a man sitting alone on a bench. She stopped and simply asked him if he needed anything.

He did not ask for money or anything big, he only asked for a pair of socks and a bottle of water. That alone should make us think. Sometimes being the hands and feet of Jesus looks exactly like that, meeting a simple need with compassion and without suspicion. We are often too quick to judge people who are less fortunate, assuming motives or stories we do not know, when the truth is that many are just tired, thirsty, cold, and worn down by life. Jesus did not ask people to explain themselves before He showed mercy, and He did not withhold kindness because someone’s situation made others uncomfortable. If we cannot respond to a small request with love, then we need to check our hearts. Kindness does not have to be complicated or costly to be Christlike, it just has to be genuine, and sometimes a bottle of water and a pair of socks speak louder than a thousand words. Be Kind!

We are getting started for this year and are hopeful to help many people through The 1:9 Mission Foundation.
We are located just outside Atlanta, Georgia, and our heart is to meet real needs in real time.

We have created an Amazon list with essential items people need every day, and we will continue adding and updating it as needs come up. Our goal is to put together care packages and bags with items like soap, first aid supplies, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other basics that bring comfort and dignity.

I tried to include different quantities and price ranges so there are options for everyone. The list is not finished and will be updated daily, so please check back.

If you see items on the Amazon list that you already have and would like to donate, just let us know and we will make arrangements to get them. Right now we need more blankets, undershirts, gloves, neck gaiters, and other cold weather essentials.

There is also an option on the Amazon list to donate to a gift card fund so items can be purchased as needs arise.

You can view our Amazon list and donate here:
