MOTHERS DAY! You are invited to a reprise of my Mother’s Day talk from last year— with exciting revisions, different stories, updates, and more. Again, I ask the question “What is the value of art and art education, particularly in our time?”

Mothers Day! .talent.gallery high noon! Come hear my reprise (with exciting edits!) of my Artist Talk about my high school art teacher mom, Pat Abbott, and again asking the question: What is the value of art and art education?—- particularly in these fraught times.

And call to those who were the students of Mom/Pat Abbott— What do YOU think is the value of art and art education? Reply DM on Instagram or in the comments. Thanks!❤️💃🏻

A friend of mine once said: how would a painter like it if they walked in the studio one morning to find that their wonderful painting had thrown itself off the easel and smashed on the floor?
Oh well. This is why I like ceramics. It keeps me humble, and every disappointment is a chance to make something new.

Expect even a more wonderful 3 foot long alligator piece soon!

Hey Southern Oregon! Behold your Republican representative. I just called his Washington office and simply said I was his constituent and did not support the attack on Iran. It took two seconds. I spoke to a real person. I am still so filled with anger and grief. And by the way, how about “support our troops” means you don’t send our sons and daughters into war from the comfort of your beach club without a plan.

In the midst of all the storms, the injustice, despair, the outrage and grief today, I am taking a moment to consider the rescue dog Aloka who is accompanying the bright-robed monks as they walk for peace.

Their message is powerful but what really moves me is that they are there, a shimmering line in a reawakening frosty American landscape—- with this “rescue dog” accompanying.

And I ask myself: What should we rescue?
And I ask myself: How do we move through this time?
And I ask myself: What can we create out of this destruction?

I remember being so shocked during the pandemic when George Floyd was murdered. It was as if most of the nation, for a split second, regardless of race, religion, political party, or state, saw the inhumanity of that killing and cried out. I was also so shocked when people, in a time of great uncertainty and death, risked going out on the streets because what was more important was shouting about the injustice, pandemic be damned. It was a sadly brief, but deeply profound moment. (I think of that line, “he cried out for his mama, and all the mamas answered”)
So. I am hoping that this is another moment, because this is deeply immoral. Rise up American people, in whatever talents and capacity you possess. Together, we can start building a future that is right and just. ❤️ and by the way, keep telling Renee Good’s story too. Let’s blanket the world with it! Don’t let the lies eclipse the truth, because together we are powerful.

HAPPY SOLSTICE! Behold the bird that has been whittering at my window the past two weeks. There day and night, adamant that it has something it has to teach— are you fighting or embracing your reflection, and if you can’t bless it— the world, the state of things—are you getting ready to pick up a tool and make it new?

Let’s go! We shed our skins and get ready for the clear eyed momentum of the horse!
