FULL CIRCLE. SURREAL MOMENT.

Tyree Cooper is in the house.

Sitting here at Groove Shop North, during the 30-year relaunch of the Groove Shop, with Tyree Cooper cold chilling inside the Time Warp building while “House Music Is My Life” is playing through the speakers.

Man… talk about full circle.

Back in the late ’80s and early ’90s, I was playing Tyree Cooper records, learning the craft and soaking up Chicago House Music. Never would I have imagined that 30+ years later we'd be sitting together way up here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin — at Groove Shop North — with those same records playing.

And we’re not just sitting around talking about the past.

Tyree and I have been putting our heads together, working on new ideas and a fresh new mix — classics, reworks and unreleased songs. Digging through the music, the history and some things you may have never heard before.

The lights are jamming.
The music is playing.
Tyree Cooper is in the house.

30 YEARS. FULL CIRCLE. AND WE’RE STILL MOVING FORWARD.

🇬🇧 GETHRO “JEFF” JONES — NORTHERN SOUL HISTORY

Jeff comes straight out of England’s legendary Northern Soul movement — a culture built around rare American soul 45s, all-night dancing, record collecting and legendary rooms like Wigan Casino.

Jeff didn’t hear about that history — he lived it.

His book, They Danced All Night, tells his firsthand story of growing up in Wolverhampton and becoming part of that legendary Northern Soul scene.

But our history together goes back nearly 30 years.

In 1997, Jeff walked through the doors of the original Groove Shop in Rockford, Illinois — and the rest is history.

He became a personal friend and has joined me on many DJ ventures, parties and journeys ever since — dancing at so many of my events and becoming part of the family along the way.

Now, nearly 30 years later, Jeff is joining the party here in the Northwoods for my birthday and the 30-year relaunch of Groove Shop Records.

And already in the house…

🔥 Tyree Cooper JUST LANDED IN THE NORTHWOODS! 🔥

Tyree was there in 1997 when I opened the Groove Shop in Rockford, Illinois, blessing the shop from the beginning. Now, nearly 30 years later, he’s back to celebrate the 30-Year Relaunch of Groove Shop Records and help kick off the next chapter.

First, I had to show Tyree how we get down here in the Northwoods — showing him all the dispensaries around Ironwood, stopping to check out the giant Hiawatha statue, then heading over to The Munch in Hurley for some tacos. 🌮

Then we’re Time Warping into the future — heading to the Time Warp Building, home of Groove Shop Records Worldwide Headquarters & Groove Shop North, at 713 Main Street East, Ashland, Wisconsin.

From being there when the Groove Shop started in ’97 to being here for the relaunch nearly 30 years later — FULL CIRCLE.
