A Simple Farm, LLC

A Simple Farm, LLC We laugh, try, and sometimes fail… then we laugh some more (maybe not right away, but in a day or two). To be full-time homesteaders. Simple living.

I enjoy being a fart in a skillet when it comes to knitting to tea blending, salves to sourdough, soaps and lotions to beeswax wraps and soy candles. We are a growing homestead following the great American dream... to live on what we grow and raise. To raise these young men to be strong, humble, and kind. Our Simple products keep those values with the heart of the home in mind. Youngest's farm pro

ject has been FLIPPIN' Good Seasonings and as he says "Everything you put it on is going to be FLIPPIN' good." His Flippin' Goodness has no preservatives, and no anti-caking agents that store bought seasonings have. We are a family of four. Each with different talents and gifts that we bring to the table. Rooster and Oldest are the muscle, the hunters, and the handymen. Youngest and Hen tend to be more creative and dreamers, but we put the work in as well. A Simple Farm, LLC is dedicated to creating and providing items that help others live a more simple life. From reducing toxins in our foods, clothes, and homes with household cleaners, shampoos and household products to creating simple seasoning mixes, dips, marinades and salad dressings. Our heart is in simplicity.

If you know me you know this is my favorite, and maybe you call me yarrow girl…

Yarrow is a well-known medicinal herb traditionally used for skin care, wound support, digestion, and seasonal wellness. It has feathery leaves and clusters of small white, pink, or yellow flowers.

Common traditional benefits and uses include:

* Skin and wound support — Historically called a “soldier’s herb” because it was traditionally used for minor cuts, scrapes, and bruises.
* Anti-inflammatory properties — Often used in salves, oils, and teas to help soothe irritation.
* Digestive support — Traditionally used to stimulate digestion and ease occasional bloating.
* Supports sweating during illness — Frequently included in herbal teas during colds and fevers to encourage perspiration.
* Menstrual support — Some herbal traditions use yarrow for menstrual discomfort and cycle support.
* May help support circulation — Traditionally associated with healthy blood flow.
* Pollinator-friendly — Excellent for attracting bees and beneficial insects to gardens.

Common ways people use yarrow:

* Tea or infusion
* Tincture
* Infused oil
* Salves and balms
* Dried herb bundles
* Compresses or poultices

Yarrow is often paired with:

* Calendula
* Plantain
* Lavender

in herbal skin preparations.

A few cautions:

* Some people may develop skin sensitivity when handling fresh yarrow.
* Avoid excessive use during pregnancy unless advised by a qualified professional.
* Make sure to identify it carefully, since some lookalike plants in the carrot family can be toxic.

The flowers and upper leaves are the parts most commonly harvested for herbal use.

This one is definitely in my top five!

Purple Deadnettle is a common spring w**d in the mint family that has a long history of traditional herbal use. Despite the name, it does not sting like stinging nettle.

Some commonly discussed benefits and traditional uses include:

* Rich in antioxidants — Contains flavonoids and other plant compounds that help protect cells from oxidative stress.
* Skin support — Traditionally used in salves, poultices, and infused oils for minor skin irritation, dryness, and bug bites.
* Seasonal wellness support — Often used in teas during seasonal transitions because of its gentle anti-inflammatory properties.
* Mild allergy support — Some herbalists use it in spring blends alongside nettle and local honey.
* Wound support — Historically used as a field herb for small cuts and scrapes.
* Pollinator-friendly plant — One of the earliest spring flowers for bees and other beneficial insects.
* Nutritive herb — Contains vitamins and minerals including iron, vitamin C, and fiber.

Ways people commonly use purple deadnettle:

* Fresh or dried tea
* Infused oil or salve
* Tincture
* Added to soups, smoothies, or pesto in small amounts
* Fresh poultice for skin

It’s often combined with:

* Dandelion
* Nettle
* Chickw**d

for spring herbal blends.

A few cautions:

* Harvest only from unsprayed areas.
* Make sure it’s correctly identified; it can resemble other mint-family plants.
* People with plant allergies should try small amounts first.

Young tops harvested before flowering are often considered the most tender for culinary or herbal use.
