Sugar Salvage Vintage finds and remixed upcycled jewelry at America’s Antique Mall in Algonquin, Illinois That was the turning point.

Sugar Salvage is run by Dana, a Midwestern girl that has had 'vintage' running through her veins since her grandparents started bringing her to auctions at the young age of 6. Her Grandpa told her she needed to find something to collect to make all these trips fun. She loved the colors in vintage glass paper weights so the three of them hunted all over Indiana looking for the coolest, brightest on

es they could find. Those fun times with her grandparents truly showed her what "the thrill of the hunt" meant and she has never stopped hunting ever since. She has been collecting and selling vintage for over 40 years (However her husband thinks she does waaayyy more collecting than selling). She fell in love with little trinket items like old skeleton keys, chandelier crystals, watch faces, cracker jack toys, game pieces, religious medals and other little treasures. She collected (hoarded) these things for years and years, filling up vintage jars and bottles and displayed them all around her home. One day she thought it would be pretty cool to make a necklace with some of the baubles that she had been stock piling. She then started making things for friends and family and it grew from there. On a whim she purchased rusty old 1920's Underwood typewriter at an auction to put on display in her home. She got it home and tried to clean it up with no avail, however the keys still looked great. She asked her husband if he could cut off the keys so she could make a necklace out of it. He muttered something under his breath and then said "Sure honey" and proceeded to pry the keys off the typewriter. She made her first typewriter key pendant that day and fell in love with the way they turned out. Tons of typewriters later, she has made over 500 pendants, bracelets and earrings and has sold them all over the Midwest. She figured she better come up with a name for her business and decided on Sugar Salvage, as her Grandpa would call her Sugar. He would call her Cupcake too, but Cupcake Salvage just sounded like moldy old baked goods. In early 2016, Dana added a new addition to her Sugar Salvage team - her little daughter Kate. Kate has already been on the hunt with mom at flea markets and auctions searching for vintagey bits and bobs to repurpose into jewelry. She is most definitely going to teach her daughter about the "thrill of the hunt" and the fun you can have along the way.
