A pleasant memory...Eid Mubarak to the Muslim community ☪️
I also meant to post this last night as well but the kiddies bedtime meant my bedtime🤦🏽♀️
My daughter selected as last night’s , and though we are , it was important for me from an early age to introduce her to different cultures and religious beliefs, and to foster within her a certain level of understanding and acceptance.
Though we’ve read this book quite a few times already, as we turned each page last night she had questions and comments. I did my best to answer them as they were simple questions from a six year old and I’ve posted them below. Tell me how I did 🙈
LO: Mummy why do they wear a hijab?
Me: Babe they wear it as an expression of their faith and love for God
LO: Well how can they comb their hair if they don’t take it off? Is it because their hair is razzy?
Me: They do take their hijab off when they’re at home and amongst family members, and their hair is combed below it.
LO: Who is Allah?
Me: Allah is God. That’s how they call their God.
LO: What kind of God do they have? I thought there were other types of God’s with three heads?
Me: They believe in one God just as we do. You’re thinking of some Hindu Gods ( she plays with the and flash cards all the time 😁)
LO: What kind of prayers do they say? Do they say Gentle Jesus meek and mild?
Me: No they don’t pray the Gentle Jesus prayer but they say other prayers.
When we read the page that spoke to Zakat, I asked her if she knew what it was and she quickly pipped up YES! That’s money 🙈 I then explained to her that it’s a form of charitable giving and yes, it may sometimes involve the giving of money.
