My Emergency C-Section Story 🤍

When I was told I needed an emergency C-section, I remember feeling like I had somehow failed.

I had envisioned a natural birth, and when things didn't go according to plan, I questioned myself. Looking back, I realise those feelings were shaped by the messages we sometimes hear—that giving birth naturally somehow means you've done "better."

The truth is, no birth method is superior to another.

Both my babies had atopic dermatitis / mild infant eczema, and bone marrow is one food that has worked well for our family. 🤍 Since few asked how I prepare our bone marrow “butter”, here you go!

🥩 I get our bone marrow from SJ MEAT SUPPLY PTE LTD — look for Abang Shafeeq!

HOW I PREPARE IT:

1. Preheat oven to 220°C and line your tray with baking paper.

2. Place the bone marrow on the tray — no washing needed.

3. Bake for 20–25 mins, until nicely browned.

4. Scoop out the sumsum. Canoe cut makes this sooo much easier!

Optional: add some of the rendered fat left on the tray. More fat = greasier spread.

5. Chill for about 30 mins.

6. Whip with an electric whisk until creamy.

7. Store in a container or portion into silicone moulds for easy little “butter cubes”. 🧈

And don’t throw away the bones! I boil them afterwards to make broth. 🙌🏼

Why bone marrow?
Bone marrow is an energy-dense food containing fats, protein and micronutrients such as vitamin B12 and iron. I like incorporating it into my babies’ meals as part of a varied diet — especially now that they’re older and I can use it as a spread.

My daughter’s very first screen time is Ms Rachel… and now apparently she wants to BE Ms Rachel too 😂🎀❤️

A***n turns FOUR! 💚🚀 Bismillahi Maashaa-Allah

Ever since this boy discovered Toy Story, he has been OBSESSED — so of course, his 4th birthday had to be Toy Story themed! 🥹

And because birthday boy requested TWO celebrations — one with his friends in school and another at home — Mommy had some work to do. 😂

But the one thing that really made everything come together? THE CAKE! 🎂

We’ve been getting A***n’s birthday treats from Annabella Patisserie since he turned 2, and this year they made his Toy Story dreams come true with the Disney Pixar Toy Story Aliens Cake 💚

Preparing sumsum is easier than you may think! 🦴

For beginners, we recommend the canoe cut, as the bone marrow is exposed and much easier to cook and scoop out.

Once cooked, keep the rendered fat for a richer spread, or drain some if you prefer it less oily. Whisk until smooth, leave it to set in the fridge, then spread a small amount on toast and enjoy!

POV: You waited so long to watch The Devil Wears Prada 2… just not long enough to wait for your husband. 😭

I didn’t manage to catch it in the cinema, and when it finally came out on Disney+, I could never find the time to watch it.
Until yesterday - so yes, I pressed play without Arif.😂

My First Birth Story 🤍

Before giving birth, I was determined to try for a natural delivery without an epidural.

Well... let's just say my pain threshold wasn't quite as impressive as I thought it would be. 😅

Eventually, I decided to have an epidural, and I must say, the whole process was much smoother than I had imagined. I did experience some side effects—mainly shivering afterwards—but the medical team kept a close eye on me throughout.

Alhamdulillah, everything went safely, and that's what truly matters.

At the end of the day, it wasn't about whether I gave birth with or without pain relief. It was about welcoming my baby safely into the world, with both mummy and baby doing well. ❤️
