If you’re like me, you’ll take a walk down guilt-street after munching on sinfully-irresistible snacks and start looking for healthier options. Though I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not crazy over tempeh in any of its forms, I love the fact that it’s made completely from fermented soybeans. It is also made with zero added salt and is naturally gluten-free.

Sliced into bite-sized chips that are the perfect size, Truly Gourmet Tempeh Chips are a great guilt-free snack to satisfy those cravings. In fact, tempeh is traditionally served with a number of meals in Malaysia and Indonesia (such as ayam penyet) as part of a proper meal, so it’s quite filling.

Taste-wise, the unsalted Truly Gourmet Tempeh Chips has a nutty flavour with a tinge of sour and bitter. While enjoyable by itself, tempeh goes well with savoury sauces, including sambal, chilli paste, mustard, and virtually any Mexican or Mediterranean sauce (salsa). Come to think of it, tempeh tastes quite a lot like tortilla chips served with nachos—I think you know where I’m going with this.

The bad news: these pre-sliced tempeh bits come at a premium of $8 for 80g, which is significantly more expensive than fresh tempeh (but keeps longer since fresh tempeh is still “alive” and will continue to ferment even in the refrigerator). Truly Gourmet Tempeh Chips are cheaper than other tempeh chip brands, though, and I’m not completely against the idea of sticking up on some.

Like many of us, Bryan was quite new to the idea of drinking “healthy coffee” and had not tried any healthy coffee products like Hello March Quinoa Coffee before this. When asked about his reviews of the coffee, Bryan commented, “It tasted very ‘kaw’. I followed the recipe as recommended and I find it quite bitter. Maybe it is formulated to be less sweet to promote health.”

The label on Hello March Quinoa Coffee suggested that the coffee is formulated with brown sugar instead of white sugar. For the added health kick, quinoa is used as a thickener for coffee. Upon listening to the sharings by Titbits team, Guan was impressed by MyReal crackers’ commitment to making “honest-to-goodness” food. Today, we are lucky to have Teng Kok Guan (Guan), the CEO of Tan Lee Heng Sdn Bhd to drop by and try out EATS Onion Chips (Spicy Mala Flavour) with us. As the key person at the helm of the company, Guan is in charge of the top-level managerial decisions across all divisions under the Tan Lee Heng group of companies, including Tips & Titbits.

When asked about Guan’s review of EATS Onion Chips with Spicy Mala flavour, Guan finds it to be less numbing as compared to the usual China mala flavouring. Rather, the spicy mala flavour has an Ikan Bilis (anchovies) flavouring that makes it tastes very “Malaysian”.

EATS Onion Chips Spicy Mala flavours are made with Szechuan peppercorn and chilli pepper. According to Guan, it is not too spicy, but rather, the spiciness level is just right for the Malaysian’s taste bud to enjoy.
