How to Identify a Male and Female Betta ?

2 types of Identification. (BY APPEARANCE AND BY BEHAVIOR)

I. BY APPEARANCE (Pamamagitan ng Hitsura)

1. Wait until characteristics begin to develop with age. ( Hintaying lumaki ang Betta para makita ang kaibahan)

Hindi pa kasi nadedevelop ung s*xual characteristics nila pag Juvenile size palang. Kailangan hintayin ng about 2 to 3 months para maidentify mo. Makikita sa Picture ang kaibahan ng female sa male betta.

2.Observe the size and shape of their Fins. (Tignan ang laki at haba ng mga palikpik)

Male Betta fish will generally have long dorsal (top), ventral (bottom), and caudal (tail) fins. Female Betta fish will typically have shorter fins about as long as the Betta is tall or shorter.

Meaning mas mahaba lahat sa male betta kesa sa lalaki.
Pero take note na hindi porke maikli ay female na ang betta. For example ang plakat ay sadyang maikli ang tail so hindi pwedeng sabihing babae lahat ng plakat 😁 mas maikli lang ang sa female plakat kumpara sa male.

3. Look for the Eggspot. (Hanapan ng Eggspot or pwerta)

Female Bettas will have a small white spot on their underside. This spot will resemble a grain of salt. It is located between the near the edge of the ventral fin near the head of the Betta.

May times na nagdedevelopnng false eggspot ang male kaya hindi ito ang best na way para maidentify ang S*x ng Betta.

4.Check your Betta's Gills for a beard. ( Hanapan ng mahabang mukhang balbas sa parteng hasang)

Both male and female Betta fish have a membrane under their gills that is a different color than their body. Usually, the beard is brown or black in coloration. Males tend to have larger beards than females. You may only be able to see the female's beard with when her gills are closed if you look hard enough. Males tend to be more obvious even when the gills are open.

Basta mas malaki ang balbas ng Male sa parteng hasang.

5. Consider the m**hod of purchase.( Paano mo nabili ang betta)

How you purchased your Betta can tell you a little about his or her s*x. Male bettas are typically sold exclusively in the typical "pet store" because of their bright colors and large fins.

Kalimitan ng tintinda sa petshop ay mga Male na nakabukod sa mga baso or sa paisa isang bote. Pagdating sa Female ay sama sama sila sa isang tank na kung tawagin ay Sorority Tank.

II. BY BEHAVIOR

1. Put a mirror beside the tank. (Iharap sa salamin ang Betta)

Bettas will flare at other males. Both male and female Betta fish have aggressive tendencies. However, male are typically more likely to engage in aggressive behavior. When you place a mirror beside or in your Betta's tank, your Betta will see another Betta. Males will likely stretch or flare their gills to show dominance. They may even try to attack the mirror

Meaning mas matatapang ang Male sa Female kaya malalaman mo agad sa pagtapat palang ng salamin kung magflare na agad or hindi.
Take note na wag iiwanan ang salamin para hindi mastress ang betta

2. Look for Bubble Nest. (Hanapan ng Bubble Nest /BBN)

When males are ready to mate, they typically create bubbles on the surface of the water. This is in preparation for tending to fertilized eggs.Note, Female bettas have been known to build bubble nests as well.

Eto yung sinasabi niyong bula bula sa taas ng aquarium. Normal lang yon sa betta. It is a sign na ready ang Male and Female for breeding. It is also a sign ng good water quality as well.

What is Flare / Flaring ?

Simulan natin sa Term na Flare, ito ay nangangahulugang "i-widen up or ibuka " , "sudden occurence of anger or biglaang pagkagalit".

So ano nga ba ang Betta Flaring?

1. Ito ay ang pagbuka ng Tail, gills, at fins ng alaga nating Betta na makikita sa mga picture sa ibaba.

2. Ito ay ginagawa ng isang betta sa tuwing nakakaramdam siya ng "threat o panganib" sa kanyang nasasakupang teritoryo.
Ang mga betta fish or fighting fish ay naturang territorial kung kaya naman ay normal lang sa kanilang gawin ang flaring sa tuwing may nasesense silang threat o panganib sa paligid. Ibinubuka nila ang lahat ng pwedeng ibuka hahahaha para itaboy ang tinuturing nilang kaaway.

Para saan o bakit natin ginagawa sa mga Betta ang Flaring?

1. For Grooming purposes.

Sinasadya nating galitin ang ating mga Betta upang sila'y magflare. Ito ay makakatulong upang mabanat at maextend ang kanilang mga Fins at buntot na nakakatulong sa magandang porma ng ating mga betta.

2. For quick metabolism and to avoid constipation (mapabilis ang pagtunaw sa kinain at maiwasan ang hindi pagkatunaw ng kinain)

Paano gawin ang Flaring?

1. Tapatan ng Mirror ang iyong betta.
2. Tapatan ng Flaring Stick ang iyong Betta
Ang flaring stick ay maaring maging lapis,ballpen,stick o kahit artipisyal na betta na nakakabit sa stick)
3. Tapatan ng kapwa Betta ang Betta.
4. Panoorin ng Video sa inyong Cellphone mula sa Youtube ng nagpeflare na Betta.

Tuwing kailan at gaano katagal ang Flaring?

Nadedepende ito sa uri ng Betta.

1.Kung Crown Tail betta ay limitado lamang sa iilang segundo ang Flaring upang maiwasan ang curling ng mga dulo ng buntot at ng fins.

2.Kung ibang uri naman ng Betta ay limitado sa 3 hanggang 5 minuto (para sa akin) ng flaring ang maaring gawin.

***Gawin ang Betta Flaring matapos pakainin ang bawat isda.

Maaaring masira ang taglay nilang slime coat. Ito ay nagsisilbing proteksyon ng kanilang immune system at panlaban nila sa mga external viruses and infection. Ang pag gamit ng asin at talisay leaves o extract ay nakakatulong para sa kailangang slime coat ng betta mo.

Kung kailangan mong ilipat si betta mula sa tank niya papunta sa ibang lalagyan, gumamit ka ng betta scoop. Iwas stress kay betta, iwas pagkawala pa ng slime coat nya.

5 common mistakes ng mga Newbie / Beginners na dapat iwasan. (Base sa mga nakita ko online at iba pang fishing community)

1. Paggamit sa Methylene Blue bilang "Pang pa-BLUE" ng Tubig.

Kalimitan ( hindi lahat ) sa mga petshop ay nagsisinungaling na sa mga beginners para makabenta. Sinasabi nila na pampaganda ng kulay ng aquarium ang m**h Blue. Ang main purpose ng m**hylene blue ay gamutin ang mga Betta na affected ng Fungus, may sakit sa balat etc.

2. Ang paghahanap ng "Isda na pwedeng walang Oxygen"

Unang una lahat ng nabubuhay na hayop at isda ay nangangailangan ng Oxygen para mabuhay kung kaya naman mali na sabihin na Isdang hindi kailangan ng oxygen.
Sa halip, dapat nating sabihin na mga isdang hindi kailangan ng air pump at aerator. Madaling sabihin na common sense nalang naman dahil ayun talaga ang tinutukoy nila pero ang bottomline is mali pa rin.

Ang betta ay humihigop pa rin ng Oxygen sa taas ng kanilang mga tank sa tuwing sila'y umaahon kung kaya naman ay maling sabihin na hindi nila need ng oxygen para mabuhay.

Isda na pwedeng walang Oxygen - 🚫⚠️
Isda na pwedeng walang Air pump/aerators - ✔💯

3. Overfeeding o labis na pagpapakain sa mga Betta.

Kalimitan sa mga nagsisimulang magalaga ay natutuwa dahil kain nang kain ang kanilang mga alaga pero ito ay masama sapagkat maari itong magdulot ng "bloatedness" dahil sa labis na pagpapakain.

Maaring limitahan ang pakain sa ating mga betta.
Ito ay nadedepende kung breeder ka ba, casual keeper, at pang sali sa show ang iyong betta. Maaring 2 beses lang pakainin ang ating mga betta.

Kung matapos ang 5 minuto ay may nalutang pa rin ang mga pagkain ay maari ng tanggalin upang hindi magsanhi ng pagkapollute ng tubig na maaring ikamatay ng ating mga isda.

4. Pagpasok palang sa Fishkeeping ay gusto na agad nilang kumita at Magbreed.

May mga keepers na bibili agad ng isang pares ng Betta at gustong dumaretso sa breeding process na hindi alam at walang sapat na research patungkol sa tamang Breeding process.

Wala namang masama sa pagpasok sa breeding at business pero inaral muna sanang mabuti kung paano alagaan ang napiling isda na ibibreed para makaiwas sa pagkalugi at mamatayan ng mga alaga.

5. Bumibili muna ng isda bago bumili ng Tank.

Hindi kasi basta nalang nilalagay ang betta sa Tank, lagay ng tubig , lagay ng halaman tapos lagay ng isda.

May mga considerations tayo:

I. Unplanted tank.
a. Need ng stock water or dechlorinated water para maiwasan ang pagkalason ng mga isda.
b. Water temperature. - iwasan ang water shock sa mga betta kahit na sinasabi ng iba na hardy fish sila ay need pa rin iacclimate. Pwedeng gumamit ng water heater pag airconditioned ang room.

II.Planted Tank
a. Need maestablish ang Nitrogen cycle sa loob ng tank kasama ang halaman.
b. Need ng stock water same sa unplanted.
c. Water temperature same sa unplanted.

**stock water ay nastock na tubig ng 24 to 48 hrs.
**maaring gumamit ng water dechlorinator if walang stock water na gagamitin kung meron ka naman.

So ayun na nga, napakarami pang common mistakes pero hindi ko na maiisa isa sa sobrang dami 😅. Hoping na makatulong ito kahit papano.

Ever-changing and always unique, the world of multicoloured HMPK will never stop giving life to beautiful, rare combinations of colour. Possibly the most loved and confusing variation of Betta in the last 3 years, genetic combinations have proved to be a canvas for painting your dream Betta. Always unduplicatable.

Understanding the Naming:

The world of multicolour fish presents a naming challenge with the sheer diversity and overlapping of genetic types. Commonly used names are Nemo, Candy, Emerald or just 'Multicolour'. Let's take a closer look at slight differences for the naming conventions for the similarly styled fish.

Rule No.1: What makes a Nemo/Candy/Emerald?
First and foremost, what sets these apart from a regular marble is ONE Rule. The rule being: The fish in any combination should have the presence of either Red or Yellow, Red or Orange or all of the three colours present in the Base Layers.

Nemo:
A Nemo can be viewed as a full coloured Koi with the presence of either Red or Yellow, Red or Orange or all of the three colours present in the Base Layers. Using the naming of 'Nemo' groups these fish that present a clean, marbled rich look without the focus on the iridescent/scaling layer. The cleaner the better. At times the iridescent layer can be bred to present a patter on the scales which compliments the fish as a whole. Eg. Galaxy or Samurai Variations. A good Nemo should have a rich, full, well-marbled base colour easily seen by the eye; uncovered by too much iridescent layer. The body marbling should be either large blocked or well splattered. The focus of the colour is the Body.

Nemokoi: Same as above 'Nemo', though presenting Cellophane patching akin to a standard koi variation.

Emerald: An Emerald fish should have the following traits:
1) The presence of either Red or Yellow, Red or Orange or all of the three colours present in its fins. 2) Non-focus on the base colour layer of the body. 3) Majority of the body covered by iridescent layer. The focus of the colour is Finnage.

Candy: A true Candy should have the presence of all 3 base layer colours: Yellow, Orange and Red with black being an optional presentation to taste. It should also have a presence of a strong base layer in patterning on the body and/or lacing on the fins. The iridescent layer should have a minimum of two colours, present in a galaxy variation or well laced. The minimum requirement for a true candy is 5 colours. The focus of the colouration is the overall fish.
