A follow up about this mod...
This shouldn’t be seen as an opportunity to attack or malign a fellow vaper. It is an opportunity to educate and spread the word on safety, something that benefits all of us.
I deleted my earlier post so I could talk with the modder who created this device. Some of you said I should have gotten his permission before posting his photograph and you were right. I have apologized to him privately and am now doing so publicly. I should not have reposted his photo without permission and I am sorry. The photo above is posted with the permission of the modder, Herson Franz Garin Ugale of Hidden Leaf V**e Shop & Gears on Facebook.
Others of you said, in addition to me being “stupid”, that I should have gotten the back story before posting about how this is a dangerous thing to do. I have gotten the back story from the modder himself and the message of my post has not changed.
My earlier post and this one are not a personal attack! It was merely a message to the community that mods like this can be dangerous. I understand that va**rs will experiment and post about it asking for feedback, especially in the Philippines where the modding community is very active. But we must always be mindful that others can spread photos of what you have done and might try to repeat the modification, perhaps with no knowledge of the danger.
As I understand it, from my conversation with the modder, this involved a device that was NOT compatible with using an extension tube and running on 8.4V. The modder realized this was possibly dangerous and posted about his experiment and the results, being interested in what the community might think about it and being interested in their suggestions.
For those who don’t know what the issue is with the modification shown in the photo, taking a single battery device and modding it to use two batteries in series when it’s not rated for that can be dangerous. It could destroy components on the regulator circuit board, possibly causing it to autofire or to even short-circuit the batteries through the regulator circuit. This can cause the batteries to explode.
I’m not asking the modder communities to stop doing cool things. I’m only asking that they always be aware of how far information can spread. If you post an image of a possibly, or definitely, dangerous modification I only ask that you please add a note to the image itself saying that.
