Chicken eggs are an affordable source of protein and other essential nutrients. They are easy to prepare and can be added to various recipes.
Based on the DOST-FNRIโs 2019 Philippine Food Composition Table (FCT) and Food Exchange List (FEL) for Meal Planning, one boiled egg contains ๐ด ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ถ๐ป and ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฏ ๐บ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ถ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐บ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ๐น๐ฒ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ผ๐น.
However, you may have heard that cholesterol contributes to heart disease, which is the leading cause of death worldwide.
A study led by Tanchoco in 2011 about the effect of egg consumption on Filipino adults' lipid profile showed that for most people, the cholesterol in eggs does not cause a spike in blood cholesterol levels. That said, some individuals, known as "hyper-responders", may experience a rise in blood cholesterol when consuming eggs, while some may be allergic. But for most people, eggs can be enjoyed in moderation without concern.
So, if you are in good health, there is no need to fear eggs. When consumed as part of a moderate, varied, and balanced diet, eggs can be a practical, relatively affordable, and nutritious choice.
