You may have seen the recent news article highlighting the upcoming visit from internationally recognised author and storyteller Kevin Toolis — and we’re excited to be bringing this important conversation to our community.

Kevin speaks about something we often avoid…
death, dying, and how we care for one another at the end of life.

But this isn’t heavy or clinical.
It’s human, honest, and deeply meaningful.

Hospice Southland is excited to welcome internationally respected journalist and author Kevin Toolis to Southland and Queenstown this March for a series of community conversations.

Kevin’s book My Father’s Wake explores how Irish traditions help communities support one another through death, grief and loss — and what we can learn about caring for one another at the end of life.

As we head into the holiday season, the Hospice Southland North Road Shop will be taking a short break. We’d like to thank our wonderful community for the amazing support you’ve shown us throughout the year — every purchase and donation helps support hospice care across Southland ❤️

We are incredibly thankful for the generosity of our donors. While the shop is closed, we kindly ask that donations are not left outside the store. Items left after hours are often damaged by weather or tampering and cannot be sold, resulting in disposal costs for Hospice Southland. Holding onto your donations until we reopen helps ensure they can be used to support care in our community.

💛💛 A big, warm thank you to our wonderful Southland community!

Your donations mean the world to us — they help keep our Hospice shops running and directly support the care we provide across Southland. We’re truly grateful for your kindness.
To help our volunteers and teams make the most of your generosity, we’d love it if items are clean, in good condition, and ready to be re-loved.

We’re unfortunately unable to use items that are:
• Broken or not working
• Dirty, stained, or damaged
• Covered in animal hair
• Clothing with holes or heavy wear

When items arrive in poor condition, our volunteers spend valuable time sorting and disposing of them — and this does come at a cost to Hospice. Our increasing dumping fees are taking away from the funds available to the communities we serve.

Your care when choosing what to donate helps us keep our shops tidy, welcoming, and full of great quality treasures for our community.

Join us on Sunday 30th November for our Hospice Southland Shop Bus Tour, where we’ll explore our fabulous shops in Gore, Winton, North Road and Yarrow Street – all in one fun-filled day!
