Want to bike to work without looking like a drowned rat? 🌧️🚲
With all this rain in Tāmaki Makaurau, it can be fun to splash through puddles… but wet roads mean it’s harder for others to see you.
Stay safe by:
• Flashing lights front and back
• Bright rain gear
• Slower speeds on wet roads

About three percent of urban New Zealanders are considered “committed” bike riders, and even fewer get in the seat rain, hail or shine. But some do.

We’ve been lucky to have David volunteering with us over the past couple of weeks.

David is a local student and keen mountain biker who first visited the hub for bike maintenance and advice on choosing a full suspension mountain bike. After trying out a friend’s bike and learning some new skills at the Hub, including how to replace an inner tube and the differences between tubeless and non-tubeless setups, David felt confident making his next move.

He went on to purchase a full suspension bike and has been enjoying riding at Totara Park. So impressed with what the bike hub offers, David decided to give back by volunteering with us over the school holidays, making a big contribution to both the hub and the community.

This is Jeremy who popped into our Hub after spotting a very unique bike on Trade Me, a full-suspension, novelty, old-school Jeep bike (yes, actually made by the car brand Jeep!).

He was so keen he came in to see it for himself, took it for a solid test ride around the park and that sealed the deal. The Jeep was going home with him!

Jeremy’s now happily cruising, confident in the safety checks and quality mahi carried out by our awesome mechanic Andy Blyth and the Bike Hub Manukau team.

Happy cycling, Jeremy! 🙌🚲

Meet Josh, a regular at the hub and always up for a good yarn. He’s volunteered with us in the past and is hugely appreciative of the mahi that happens here.

He recently picked up an awesome cruiser from us, ready to hit the streets and enjoy getting around on two wheels 🚲

Josh told us how much the support at Bike Hub Manukau means to him and that means a lot to us too.

Thanks for being part of the Bike Hub whānau, Josh!
