The Rambo knife everyone knows is wrong.

Most "Rambo machete" replicas online copy the cruder D2 jungle blade John Rambo forges on screen in Rambo IV (2008). But there's a better one — and it never made the film.

Gil Hibben designed the "Big John" machete for that same film: laminated wood handle, blood sight cutout, sawback spine for barbed wire, integrated double-guard. Stallone approved it. Then the script demanded Rambo forge his own machete in haste during the story, so they went with something cruder for the screen.

Hibben kept producing the Big John commercially because the response from collectors was so strong. Among serious Rambo enthusiasts, it's considered the better-designed blade.

We hand-forged a Big John-inspired version in 5160 spring steel as part of our complete Rambo series tribute — covering all 5 films, from Lile's 1982 First Blood to Hibben's 2019 Last Blood Heartstopper.
