Rare, sold-out hardcover edition of SHIGE, the large-format tattoo art book by Shige of Yellow Blaze Tattoo.

This copy contains the original numbered edition sheet, marked as 148/350, making it a particularly collectible edition.

The book documents Shige's tattoo work, paintings, drawings, and visual world, and is becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially in a numbered hardcover edition.

BRAND NEW - Sanzo Wada (1883–1967) was an artist, teacher, and kimono designer during a turbulent era of avant-garde Japanese art and cinema. Wada was ahead of his time in the development of traditional and Western-influenced color combinations, thereby laying the foundations for contemporary color research. Based on his original 6-volume work from the 1930s, this book offers 348 color combinations, as alluring and sensual as his own design of the book.

At a temple in Koedo, Kawagoe, the 28th of every month carries a special meaning.

Fudō Myōō is said to descend here, and the temple grounds fill with antique dealers, old objects, masks, figures, and forgotten stories.

For Hontō Shop, this was one of those perfect Japan moments: walking between temple buildings, incense, antiques, and objects that feel like they’ve been waiting to be found.

A successful hunt.

Masks, tanuki, and more are coming home.

Hidden in the history of Japanese tattooing are places like Nanushi Falls in Ōji, Tokyo. A site connected to clandestine gatherings of tattooed men, endurance, and the quiet pride of horimono.

After 1925, the Edo Chōyūkai is said to have organized meetings here, continuing a deeper tradition of tattoo display, community, and mutual recognition.

I write about places like this in my upcoming book,

"Understanding Tradition: Fundamentals of the Japanese Tattoo."

It is still very much a work in progress, but little by little it is taking shape.

More to come.
Stay tuned.
