Sometimes we need to take a step back and realize that what we’ve been shown isn’t always the full picture. Ex-convict, 3 others arrested over UK-bound co***ne consignment in liquid starch sachets

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA have arrested a notorious drug trafficker identified as Nwobodo Chidiebere Basil who was previously convicted of dealing in 30.10kg methamphetamine in 2023.

A statement released by Femi Babafemi, spokesperson of the agency today December 28, says Basil was re-arrested following the seizure of 75 parcels of co***ne weighing 1.50 kilograms concealed in factory sealed sachets of cold-water starch heading to the United Kingdom at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja Lagos.

Babafemi mentioned that three cargo agents identified as Jubrin Firdausi Hassana; Kuku Daniel Oluwasegun; and Igwe Chioma Jane involved in the attempt to export the consignment to the UK were swiftly arrested on Saturday 20th December 2025 before further investigations unraveled 37-year-old Nwobodo Chidiebere Basil as the mastermind.

‘’He was arrested in a follow up operation on Sunday 21st December at a popular relaxation centre in Ikeja where he went on a date with his girlfriend.

The Agency’s criminal database revealed that Nwobodo had been arrested in May 2023 in connection with the seizure of 30.10kg methamphetamine concealed in powdered custard containers as part of a consolidated cargo going to London, United Kingdom at the export shed of the Lagos airport.

He was subsequently arraigned at a Federal High Court in charge number: FHC/L/337C/2023, convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment with an option of a fine of Seven Million Naira (₦7,000,000.00), along with one-month community service, with effect from 4th December, 2023. He paid the fine and soon after returned to the same crime.’’ Babafemi said

Driver to Gombe Governor’s Chief of State caught on camera assaulting serving ward councillor

A driver attached to Abubakar Inuwa Kari, the Chief of Staff to the Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, has been caught on camera physically assaulting a serving councillor.

A viral video sighted online shows the driver identified as Adamu Danko, repeatedly slapping the councillor, Dan Buba, in an alley within the Gombe metropolis.

The councillor was seen seated on his motorcycle, pleading and apologising in an apparent effort to de-escalate the confrontation.


In the footage, voices believed to belong to individuals accompanying Danko could be heard challenging the councillor, with one voice saying, “So you said you would slap the Chief of Staff?”

Danko was also heard verbally abusing the councillor, questioning his audacity and asserting the authority of the Chief of Staff.

Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that the assault allegedly followed the circulation of an audio recording purportedly linked to Dan Buba.

In the recording, the councillor was accused of claiming that he received N30 million to slap the Chief of Staff.

The incident has since generated strong reactions from the public, civil society groups, and political observers, many of whom have condemned the assault and called for a thorough investigation.

Meanwhile, a lawyer and human rights activist, Ahmed Ahmed Yerima, Esq., has condemned in strong terms the alleged assault on the serving councillor, Dan Buba, describing the act as unlawful, barbaric and a blatant violation of the rule of law.

In a statement, the rights activist confirmed that Councillor Dan Buba was brutally assaulted and verbally abused by a driver reportedly attached to the Chief of Staff, Government House, Gombe State.

“This act is unacceptable, condemnable, and completely contrary to the principles of the rule of law. We will not treat this incident with levity, nor allow such acts of impunity to go unchecked in our community,” Yerima added.

Notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, has denied receiving money or vehicles during peace talks with the Zamfara State Government.

In a video that has made the rounds on social media, the wanted bandit claimed since he was born, he has never handledN5 million. According to him, his activities as a bandit is not for personal gains.

The bandit made the video while responding to allegations by Musa Kamarawa, a former peace mediator appointed by the Sokoto and Zamfara state governments to facilitate dialogue with armed groups in the North-West.

Kamarawa had alleged that Turji received N30 million during several meetings with the former governor of Zamfara State, Bello Muhammad Matawalle who is now Minister of State for Defence at the Government House in Gusau. Vehicles were also reportedly distributed.

In the viral video, Turji while denying the claim, said

“By Allah, since I was born, I have never possessed even N5m. What I am doing is not for personal gain. We were never given the N30m you are talking about.”


He accused Kamarawa of betraying the trust established during negotiations and giving what he described as “false and mischievous testimony.”

“We agreed on peace when the Zamfara State government appointed you. But what you are saying now is full of lies and deceit. I did not even receive N3m” he said

Young woman allegedly ki!ls her newborn baby in Benue

A young woman allegedly gave birth to a baby boy and k!lled the newborn shortly after delivery in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

The disturbing incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, December 14, 2025 behind Government Secondary School, Gboko, throwing the community into pandemonium and mourning.

Residents are calling for immediate police intervention to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure justice is served.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement as of the time of this report.
