ST. VALENTINE’s DAY
In those days, when the Roman Empire was holding sway, there existed a Roman feast called Lupercalia, well cherished and anticipated by the people then.
In that feast, young men were expected to draw out stones from jars and on those stones were written names of maidens in their various towns.
As a young man any name you draw out from the jar will automatically become your sexual partner for the rest of the year. The feast was celebrated on 15th February every year.
But later with the example of St. Valentine, the concept of love and affection changed. The Catholic Church decided to use the Feast of St. Valentine’s Day on the 14th February to divert the attention and favour that the Lupercalia feast enjoyed.
