Eric Wesch shares story that may help you on your journey towards building a library.

'I began building my own personal library when I was in 7th grade and that obsession continued to the present day, although now I build it digitally. I suppose one might find it strange that an academic librarian would have his own library. I built the professional, academic library to serve the needs of the students and faculty of the college. My own library was built to serve my personal reading habits aside from the pleasure of owning books. I read mostly history, biography, mysteries and some general non-fiction, and I like having them available to refer to and reread.

First you need to decide why you want a library? What are your interests? Is there no public or academic library close by from which you can borrow books? Do you like the portability of having digital titles? Are you interested in collecting first editions or in specific areas? Or you can just buy books that interest you and keep those of lasting value and give away those you don't want. That becomes the foundation of your library. It can be very inexpensive if you buy used books, or, very expensive if you collect first editions. The most important part, however, is to read them, learn from them and enjoy the education and entertainment they bring.'
