“Hey man, what’s up?”

“the earth”

“the Earth"
Capitalizing "Earth" typically signifies the planet in a specific context, such as in scientific discussions, astronomy, or when referring to it as a proper noun.

“our Earth"
This phrase adds a personal or collective touch, emphasizing human connection or responsibility towards the planet. It often conveys a sense of stewardship or belonging.

"Whales are the biggest mammals on earth."

We can also say "on the Earth," but "on earth" is commonly accepted in informal contexts. (Both are fine!)

“Some words and phrases that are typically avoided or used sparingly in formal writing”

1. Contractions:

ဒီလို ဝါကျလေးတွေ …
“Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs.” ဆိုတဲ့ ဝါကျလေးက နှစ်သက်စရာပါ။ သိမယ်ထင်ပါရဲ့နော်။ အင်္ဂလိပ်အက္ခရာ စာလုံး (၂၆)လုံး အကုန်ပါလို့ပါ။

အဲဒီလို ဝါကျနောက်တစ်ကြောင်းကတော့ “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.” ပဲ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

“I chopped a tree down, and then I chopped it up.”ဆိုတဲ့ sentence ကရော …။ phrasal verb တွေက ပြဿနာ ဖြစ်စေပါတယ်။ “chop down” က “ ခုတ်လှဲသည်” လို့ အနက်ရပါတယ်။ ခုတ်ပြီးသား အပင်ကို ထင်းတုံးလေးတွေ အပိုင်းပိုင်း ခုတ်ဖြတ်/ထင်းပေါက်ရင်တော့ “ chop up” လို့ သုံးပါတယ်။

“Colorless green ideas sleep furiously.” ဆိုတာကတော့ ဘာသာဗေဒပညာရှင် Noam Chomsky ရဲ့ ဝါကျပါ။ သဒ္ဒါ မှန်ကန်အောင် စကားလုံးတွေကို စီစဉ်သုံးနှုန်း ထားပါတယ်။ ဒါပေမဲ့ အဓိပ္ပာယ် မပေါ်လွင်ပါ။ ဝါကျဖွဲ့ထုံးနဲ့ အနက်သက်ရောက်မှု ကွာဟချက်ကို ပြဆိုတာပါတဲ့။

“buffalo(bison)” ဟာ “ကျွဲ”လို့ အနက်ရပါတယ်။ အများကိန်းကို “buffaloes/ buffalo”လို့ နှစ်မျိုး သုံးကြပါတယ်။ “အနိုင်ကျင့်သည်(bully)”ဆိုတဲ့ ကြိဟာအနက်လည်း ဆောင်ပါတယ်။ အမေရိကန် (New York အပိုင်) မြို့တစ်မြို့ရဲ့ အမည်ကလည်း Buffalo ပါတဲ့။
