The Tamale Grand Commandery and Ladies' Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John International successfully held its 15th Biennial Grand Convention under the theme: “Faith, Unity, and Charity: Celebrating the Jubilee Year 2025 with Knights of St. John International & Ladies' Auxiliary in the Tamale Ecclesiastical Province.”
The convention, hosted by the 13th District Commandery and Districts 1 & 2 Ladies' Auxiliary of the Tamale Grand, took place at the University for Development Studies in Tamale from 24th to 27th July 2025. It brought together members from across the Tamale Archdiocese, as well as the Damongo and Yendi Dioceses, to renew their commitment to the Order’s core tenets: the practice of faith, hope, and Christian charity in service and unity for God and country.
The four-day programme featured a series of spiritual, ceremonial, and fraternal activities. It began with a Memorial Day Mass in honour of deceased members, followed by the Official Opening Ceremony, which was graced by several high-profile dignitaries including:
• Brig. Gen. Joseph S. Bapule, Grand President
• N/S Dame Modesta Dery, Respected President of the Ladies' Auxiliary
• Hon. Adolf John Ali, Northern Regional Minister
• Most Rev. Philip Naameh, Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, represented by his secretary, Rev. Fr. Festus Courage Tubdaa
• Prof. Mohammed Muniru, Principal of the Nyankpala Campus of UDS, representing the Vice-Chancellor
Also in attendance were Supreme Subordinate President, Maj. Gen. William E. O. Adjei; Supreme Subordinate 1st Vice President, Brig. Gen. Sir (Engr.) Joseph Charles Osei; Supreme Subordinate Trustees, Brig. Gen. Sir Prof. Anthony Amalba and Brig. Gen. Anthony Chinebuah; and the Grand Presidents of the Navrongo-Bolgatanga Grand and Ladies’ Auxiliary, Brig. Gen. Joseph P. Weguri and N/S Magdelene Akeriwe, respectively.
A highlight of the convention was the peaceful election and installation of new leadership. Brig. Gen. Prosper Kunde Kwallinjam and Noble Sister Vivian Ayamba now take the helm of the Tamale Grand Commandery and Ladies' Auxiliary respectively, succeeding Brig. Gen. Joseph S. Bapule and N/S Dame Modesta Dery.
The convention officially climaxed with a Thanksgiving Mass, offering gratitude to God for a successful gathering and renewed strength to continue serving God and humanity. This was followed by a colourful route march through the principal streets of Tamale, an expression of the vibrancy and unity of the Order, as well as a membership drive.
Special acknowledgement goes to the immense guidance and support from all their Grand Past Presidents and Ladies’ Auxiliary Past Presidents, and other senior officers who graced the occasion, including B/G Sir Surv. Anthony T. Baissana, B/G Sir Richard M. Nayasama, B/G Sir Nana Ernest R. K. Konadu, B/G Sir Engr. J. C. Osei, B/G Sir Prof. Anthony Amalba, B/G Joseph S. Bapule, N/S Dame Esther Konadu, N/S Mary Dan-Braimah, and N/S Dame Modesta Dery.
