How to Train Your Dragon (2025)

Dean DeBlois, creator of the animated How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, is bringing Hiccup, Astrid, Toothless, and friends to life in a live-action reimagining and Universal Pictures just dropped the trailer. The original film was a coming-of-age story that follows young Hiccup from childhood to adulthood, but the plot of the live-action adaptation will focus in on Hiccup’s first meeting with Toothless, a friendly dragon he can’t bear to kill, even if it means breaking tradition in his village of Berk, home of Vikings and dragon slayers.

A24’s May release will be directed by Danny and Michael Philippou whose directorial debut Talk to Me was a great horror success. The film will star Academy Award nominee Sally Hawkins in a story that centers on a sibling duo as they uncover a dark secret in their new foster mother’s home. The remaining details of the film have not been revealed but it is known that the film will also star Sora Wong and Jonah Wren Phillips.

Lilo & Stitch (2025)

After languishing in various stages of development, it was announced in 2022 that Marcel the Shell with Shoes On director Dean Fleischer-Camp would helm this live-action take on the animated musical about a Hawaiian orphan and her newfound best friend: an alien who crash-landed on the island. The film will be released with a cast that includes Kealoha as Lilo Pelekai and Lilo & Stitch creator Sanders as the voice of Stitch. Other cast members include Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Kaipot Dudoit, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere and Courtney B. Vance.

Hardy will also serve as a producer in this action film. The latest trailer teases some hand-to-hand and weapons-filled fights scenes as Hardy battles those in the criminal underworld.

The terrifying horror video game Until Dawn is being brought to the big screen. Like the video game, the film will follow a group of young adults whose cabin stay goes completely awry when they are haunted by evil. Game cast member Peter Stormare will be making a guest appearance in the film as Dr. Hill. The rest of the cast features new stars, though information about their roles remains unknown.

Co-directors Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland offer up this real-time action thriller focusing on a group of American soldiers in Iraq who find themselves pinned down in enemy territory and attempt to fight their way to safety. Mendoza served as the military consultant on Garland’s 2024 film Civil War, and the two began working on this project soon after, based on Mendoza’s own experiences as an Iraq War veteran.

The hit video game Minecraft is being transformed into a live-action movie. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but since the world-building, survival-mode video game has never really been about the story, the possibilities for the film are endless. Jason Momoa and Jennifer Coolidge will star in the film, though we’re not sure yet about the details of their characters. Characters we do know of include Steve (Jack Black), Dawn (Danielle Brooks), and Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen).
