KyuTeaCo™ | Launching January 2026 |From Field to Cup: Authentic partnerships with Kyushu farmers & artisans bringing traditional Japanese tea culture to American homes | Minority-Led Startup in Wisconsin

13/08/2026

From a fifth-generation tea farming family in Ureshino, Saga, our Hojicha comes from our farmer, Mr. Kawahara, whose family has been growing tea for five generations.

Through high-heat roasting, the tea develops warm notes of roasted chestnuts, caramel, and toasted wood, creating a naturally smooth and comforting cup.

Whisked with steamed milk, our powdered Hojicha transforms into a creamy twist on the traditional latte—rich, roasted, and deeply comforting, yet light and easy to enjoy. 🍂🍵

And with every KyuTeaCo purchase, 11% supports the long-term sustainability of tea farming communities across Kyushu through our 11% FOR GOOD program.

From Kawahara-san’s farm in Ureshino to your cup. 🤎

As you enter this new week, be reminded that you don’t have to rush what is meant to grow.

At KyuTeaCo, we’re inspired by the farmers across Kyushu who spend years cultivating their craft, working with the seasons, and caring for their tea from generation to generation.

Every cup carries their patience, dedication, and story.

Growth takes time. So does great tea. 🍵

Take a breath. Pour a cup. Trust your timing.

English black tea vs. Japanese black tea, same leaf family, totally different experience 🖤🍵

Wakoucha is lighter, smoother, and naturally sweet, no bitterness to power through. James breaks down how to steep it right, plus why you should never toss your leaves after one cup (resteeping is where the magic is).

However you enjoy your tea, enjoy your tea ✨

It’s typhoon season in Japan right now. 🌧️

The tea fields of Kyushu and Shizuoka are bracing, farmers covering their bushes, adjusting harvests, trusting deep roots to hold.

Here’s what I find beautiful: the most delicate teas (shincha, gyokuro, ceremonial matcha) are picked in spring, before the storms. But your everyday sencha? It grows right through them. Bending in the wind. Standing back up.

The tea in your cup may have already survived a typhoon.

It made it through. So can you. 🍵

Gentle thoughts to the growing regions this week.

Wagashi: More than just a sweet treat

Traditional Japanese confections that have been enjoyed for centuries. Made from ingredients like sweet bean paste (anko), rice flour, mochi, agar, and seasonal fruits, they are known for their delicate flavors and artistic designs.

Many Japanese green teas, especially matcha, have natural notes of umami, gentle bitterness, and astringency. Wagashi provides a subtle sweetness that complements these flavors without overpowering them, allowing both the tea and the sweet to shine.

Beyond taste, the pairing reflects an important part of Japanese culture: slowing down and appreciating the present moment.
