Catalin New Yorker Desk Lighters

This Model Named the “New Yorker” Features a Colorful Catalin Skyscraper Modernist Base.  It’s One-Motion, Automatic Cylindrical and Removable “New Yorker” Fitment in Chrome Plate was Used on Many Different Models of Lighters in the New Yorker Series.  Offered in at Least Five Colors with Various Degrees of Swirling, “New Yorker” Desk Lighters Were Also Manufactured Featuring Metal Bases in Many Enamels and Finishes.  Ronson Catalog No. 12790. Circa 1929.

Rondelight – “Double Boxer”

This Incredible, Stylized and Modernistic Design Incorporates Two Whimsical Boxers “Mid Punch” in the Style of Hagenauer. The Boxer on the Right is Busy Throwing “Gut Punches” While the Boxer on the Left Takes the Brunt of the Punches with Legs Twisted and Arms Thrown Back.  Finished in Polished Chrome on a Black Gunmetal Base with Removable “Baby Rondelight” at its Forefront.  A One-Of -A-Kind, “Top Tier” Rondelight with Truly Impressive Art Deco Interpretation!  Many Athletic Figures in Both Realistic Detail and Modern Interpretation were Offered However, Rarely Seen.  Ronson Catalog No. To Be Determined.  Circa 1932.

Touch-Tip and Eight-Day Clock Combination

A Handsome, Ample and Substantial Desk or Table Combination Featuring Modern-Classic Lines.  Clock has a Highly Dependable Eight-Day Movement and a Large, Legible, Rectangular Dial.  This Touch-Tip Lighter has a Large Fuel Capacity, and Advertised as “Requiring Filling Only Once in Several Months”.  Richly Enameled in Tortoise and Ivory and Finished in “Dureum”; the Dial is Finished in Two-Tone Silver with Black Numerals.  This Model has Been Seen in at Least Five Different Finishes, Although Only a Few Were Advertised.  Ronson Catalog No. 16375.  Circa 1937.

“Charging Bison” Strike Lighter

This Highly Detailed, “Charging Bison” Looks Agitated Towards Smokers Who Wish to “Light Up”!  Flint Strip Located on its Back.  Finished in Copper Plate with a “Tear Drop” Wand.  An Oversized, Very Rare Figural Lighter.  Catalog No. Unknown.  Circa 1920.

Many Wonderful, Life-Like Figurines and Variations of Strike Lighters were Manufactured by Ronson.  Strike Lighters were Friction Based; A “Wand” Rubbed Briskly on the Lighters Flint Strip Created a Series of Sparks that Lit the Tip of the “Wand”.  All Lighters Used a Detailed, High-Quality Metal “Wand” with Various Shaped “Knobs”.  The Lighter Itself was Filled with a Cotton Type Material that When Filled with Gasoline, Benzine or Later, Lighter Fluid, Would Keep the “Wand” Saturated and Ready for its Next Light.

“Rotunda” Touch-Tip Prototype

An Amazing One-Of-A-Kind Touch-Tip Using Four Twisted, Clear Cast-Acrylic Columns and an Inner Fluted Body Finished in “Genuine” Silver Plate as its Focal Point.  Oversized, Circular Top and Base with Beaded Detail Adds to its Aesthetics. This Unused Example is from the Ronson Design Department as Evident by its Incorrect Date Sticker on its Underside.  At Some Point the Design Studio Carried out a Dating Study for Louis Aronson Jr. which Consisted of Date Stickers Being Added to Several Ronson Lighters.  Some of the Dates Assigned were Incorrect.  Another True Design-Sample Prototype!

This Factory Design Sample Prototype is One of Only Two Known Touch-Tip Examples Incorporating a Fuel Screw on its Bottom.  All Other Touch-Tip’s Only Have a Flint Screw on their Bottom in Every Example Ever Found.

This Beautifully Crafted Figure with Fine Detail Throughout Stands at 9-3/16 Inches Tall. Finished in “Antique Green”, a Two-Tone Green “Wash” Which Gives the Appearance of an Aged Copper Patina.  One-Motion, Automatic Cylindrical and Removable “New Yorker” Fitment in Chrome Plate Sits in a Barrel-Shaped “Onyxite” Onyx Holder.  A Matching Round “Onyxite” Ashtray Doubles as its Base.  This Extremely Rare Lighter is the Exact One Pictured in the Second Edition of Urban Cumming’s Book “Ronson The World’s Greatest Lighter” Shown as “Figure 397”.  Catalog No. 14436.  Circa 1932.

“Dog with Pipe and Vest” Strike Lighter

5 Inch “Standing Bulldog” Also Referred to as “Sherlock Holmes”.  First Manufactured in the Early 1920’s, Early Versions Used a “Tear Drop” Wand.  This Rare Version Finished in “Venetian Bronze” is a Later Version and Uses a Rare “Cylindrical” Wand that Most Likely Changed to the “Patented Shape” Soon After.  Ronson Catalog No. To Be Determined.  Circa 1932.

Touch-Tip with Goal Post Clock and Scotty

A Rare, Fully Chrome Plated, Removable Touch-Tip “Octette” Sits in its Designated Area in Front of an Impressive, 5-3/4 Inch Tall “Goal Post Clock” with Black Hard-Rubber Composition Pull-String Winding Mechanism.  A Modernistic Caricature of a “Scotty Dog” Stands on Display at its Forefront.  Two Ball Shaped Finials Add to its Aesthetics.  Chrome Plated Circular Base with Four Ball Shaped Feet Finish Off this Impressive Table Lighter.  Clock Face Border in Satin-Chrome also Referred to as “Butler Finish” with Polished Chrome Highlights.  Catalog No. 16057.  Circa 1935.

Touch-Tip Mechanisms were Used in Many Ingenious Designs.  Cigarette Boxes, Ashtrays, Pen Rests, Desk Accessories, Pipe Holders Along with Art Deco Inspired Designs are Just Some of the Amazing Things Ronson Came Up with.  Touch-Tip’s Only Have a Flint Screw on their Bottom in Every Example Ever Found Except for Two.  Lighter Fuel was Poured Into the Hole Where the Removable Touch-Tip “Wand” was Located.  When Ready for a Light, the Wand was Pushed On the Flint-Wheel “Button” which Triggered the Flint Wheel to Emit a “Shower” of Sparks and Light the Wand’s Tip.  “Touch-Tip and It’s Lit!”

Table Lighter with Dog and Four Ashtrays

This Beautiful Set Features a German Shepherd Attached to a Base with Four Stackable and Removable Detailed Ashtrays in Lustrous Gold Plate.  “Table Lighter” in Shiny Gold Plate with Red Leather Front and Rear Panel.  Each of the Ashtrays are Stamped “The Art Metal Works, Inc. Newark N.J.” on their Underside.  This Extremely Rare Set is the Exact One Featured in Color on the Back of the First Edition of Urban Cumming’s Book “Ronson The World’s Greatest Lighter”.  It is Also the One Pictured in Both Editions of the Book, Shown as “Figure 237”.  Ronson Catalog No. 12656.  Circa 1928.

Ronson’s “Table Lighter” was Featured in Many Different Combinations with Animals, Pen Holders and Ashtrays in a Late 1920’s Catalog.  Available in Several Finishes with at Least Six Leather Colors to Choose From, In Addition to Alligator, Snake, Pigskin or Ostrich.  Table Lighter Combinations are Seldom Seen in Collections.

Strike Lighter with Pipe Rest

At 2-5/8 Inches in Height, this Strike Lighter Boasts a Single Pipe Rest “Molded” Into its Base with Flint Strip Embedded on its Right Side.  Art Deco Lines and Steps Add to this Rare Lighters Aesthetics. Finished in “Dureum” and Tortoise Enamel.  A Great Addition to Any Strike Lighter Collection!  “Dureum” was a Name Given by Ronson for Their Proprietary Process Used to Create this Gold-Colored Finish.  According to Their Description it was “A Thru-and-Thru Alloy in Rich Yellow-Gold Effect”.  Ronson Catalog No. 16364.  Circa 1937.

Rondelight – “Ballerina”

Also Known as “The Pudding Bearer”, a Very “Primped and Proper” Figure Dressed in a Fluted Skirt with Matching Collar.  A “Baby Rondelight” Sits in a Cup-Shaped Stand Carried Gracefully by its “Ballerina” in Chrome Plate with a Black Base.  6-3/4” in Height.  Ronson Catalog No. 16105.  Circa 1935.

The “Baby Rondelight” is the Smallest of Three Ball Lighters Designed by Ronson at 2-1/2 Inches Tall.  Designed with a Weighted Body Near the Base that Allows the “Baby Rondelight” to Always Return to its Upright Position when Set on a Table.  Almost Always Combined with Many Fantastic Art Deco or Realistic Chrome Figures and Ashtrays.  Normally Offered in a Black Enameled Base with a Black “Band” on its Removable Fitment, Rare “Baby Rondelight” Versions were Made with a Red, Ivory, Green or Blue Enameled “Band”.
