John Le Carrè (1931-2020) was known worldwide for his espionage novels set during the Cold War.
In 1959 he became an official of the British Foreign Ministry and was later recruited by the British Secret Service (MI 6).

His novels are inspired by his experience as a secret agent
"Call for the Dead", his first novel was published in 1961, but with "The spy who came in from the cold", his notoriety reached the international level. Other publications include: "Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy" (1974), "The Honourable Schoolboy" (1977).

John Le Carrè (1931-2020) era noto in tutto il mondo per i suoi romanzi di spionaggio ambientati durante la Guerra Fredda.
Nel 1959 divenne funzionario del Ministero degli Esteri britannico e successivamente fu reclutato dai servizi segreti britannici (MI6).

I suoi romanzi si ispirano alla sua esperienza come agente segreto "Chiamata per il morto" il suo primo romanzo fu pubblicato nel 1961, ma con "La spia che venne dal freddo", la sua notorietà raggiunse il livello internazionale. Tra le altre pubblicazioni ci sono: "La talpa" (1974), "L’onorevole scolaro" (1977).

According to the Index Translationumtra, among the world's most translated authors is Agatha Christie, with 7.117 versions of her novels, followed by Jules Verne and William Shakespeare.

➡️Agatha Christie (1890-1976) is the greatest writer of novels, among the best known we find Assassination on the Orient Express (1934), Death on the Nile (1936) and Ten Little Ni***rs (1939). Her works and her cultural impact were so important that in 1971, the British kingdom gave her the nomination of Dame of the Empire.

📝 In Toledo, circa 1085, the world's first translator school was established. Classical texts were originally translated from Greek and Latin to Arabic and Jewish. Later under the King of Castile, Alfonso X, favored the translation of Arabic and Jewish texts into Castilian language, especially scientific topic, medicine and astronomy. Laying the foundation for the development of science and philosophy that pervaded Europe in the time of the Renaissance. Toledo is recognized as the city where the modern translation was born.

📝A Toledo nel 1085 circa, si istituì la prima scuola di traduttori del mondo. Inizialmente vennero tradotti testi classici dal greco e latino, all’arabo ed ebraico. Successivamente sotto il re di Castiglia, Alfonso X, favorì la traduzione dei testi arabi ed ebraici in lingua castigliana, in particolare di argomento scientifico, di medicina e d’astronomia. Ponendo le basi per lo sviluppo della scienza e della filosofia che pervase l’Europa ai tempi del Rinascimento. Toledo è riconosciuta come la città dove è nata la traduzione moderna.

📚 Translations made a major impact even in the far east. Like westerners, they too wondered if the translation should be literal or interpretation.
The first texts translated into the East were those from Sanskrit to Chinese performed by Buddhist monks of their own writings.

The most famous is the Diamond Sutra, Kumaraiya, which represents the less literal and more faithful version of the original text.
Kumarajiya's book was published in 868 d.c. and represents the oldest translated book in the world.

📚Le traduzioni hanno avuto un'impatto importante anche in estremo oriente. Come per gli occidentali, anche loro si domandarono se la traduzione dovesse essere letterale oppure a interpretazione.
I primi testi tradotti in Oriente furono quelli dal sanscrito al cinese eseguiti da monaci buddhisti dei propri scritti.

Il più famoso è quello del Sutra del Diamante, di Kumaraiya, che rappresenta la versione meno letterale e più fedele del testo originale.
Il libro di Kumarajiya venne pubblicato nel 868 d.c. e rappresenta il Libro tradotto più antico al mondo.

📝 One of the best known translators of the 2nd century is Terenzio, famous for having adapted several Greek comedies in Latin. He argued that a translator doesn't carry out simple mechanical or passive work but helps to transfer the emotions of one culture to another.

📝 Uno dei traduttori più noti del II secolo a.c è Terenzio, famoso per aver adattato in latino diverse commedie greche. Egli sosteneva che un traduttore non svolge un semplice lavoro meccanico o passivo ma contribuisce a trasferire le emozioni di una cultura in un'altra.

📝 In the 3rd century, the Jewish population that spread to different areas of the Mediterranean was losing their knowledge of their home language. They had to be provided with a Greek translation of written sources. One of the most important translations of the period, if we want the first true translation of ancient history, was the Old Testament from Hebrew to Greek.

📝 Nel III° secolo, la popolazione ebraica che si era diffusa in diverse zone del Mediterraneo, stava perdendo la conoscenza della propria lingua d’origine. Era necessario fornire loro una traduzione in greco delle fonti scritte.  Una delle più importanti traduzioni del periodo, se vogliamo la prima vera traduzione della storia antica, fu quella dell’Antico Testamento dall’ebraico al greco.

When talking about translations it is inevitable not to mention the history of the Tower of Babel, which symbolizes the ideal loss of a unique language and justifies the existence of different languages. The etymology of the word ' babel ' comes from the bab-el Akadian language that is God's door, even if much more commonly associated with the Hebrew word balal which means ' confusing '. During construction, where the purpose was to reach God, it was never completed because, for divine punishment, people began to speak different languages.

✍🏻Quando si parla di traduzioni è inevitabile non menzionare la storia della Torre di Babele, che simboleggia la perdita ideale di una lingua unica e giustifica l’esistenza di diverse lingue. L’etimologia della parola ‘babele’ deriva dalla lingua accadica bab-el cioè porta di dio, anche se molto più comunemente viene associato alla parola ebraica balal che vuol dire ‘confondere’. Durante la costruzione, dove lo scopo era raggiungere Dio, non venne mai ultimata poiché, per punizione divina, le persone iniziarono a parlare lingue diverse.
