What’s the real difference between a reputed brand and a struggling founder-led brand?
After watching several homegrown brands scale rapidly over the last few years, I’ve realised something uncomfortable—but important.
It’s rarely about who has the best formulation.
It’s about who made the harder business choices earlier.
Here’s an honest comparison most people don’t talk about:
A reputed brand often prioritises:
• Speed over perfection
• Visibility over validation
• Storytelling over specifications
• One clear identity over multiple capabilities
• Launching now, refining later
A founder-led, science-driven brand often prioritises:
• Strong R&D before launch
• Efficacy before aesthetics
• Ethics and stability over hype
• Multiple offerings instead of one hero product
• Being right before being loud
Neither approach is wrong.
But the market rewards clarity, consistency, and courage—not just competence.
As a cosmetic scientist and manufacturer for past 9 years, I’ve learned this the hard way:
A 6/10 product with strong positioning will outsell a 9/10 product that no one understands.
The real shift happens when founders stop asking:
“Is this perfect?”
and start asking:
“Is this clear, relatable, and repeatable?”
Growth is not always a reflection of intelligence or effort.
Sometimes, it’s simply a reflection of focus and fearless ex*****on.
Still learning. Still building. Still choosing progress over perfection.
