ARCHIVE 01: GAURI HEADS
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯𝘦
Gauri is a manifestation of Parvati, consort of Shiva, and one of Hinduism’s most beloved forms of the Goddess. Her name means radiance. Her presence means abundance.
Worshipped during the annual Gauri festival, painted metal heads such as this were traditionally venerated in pairs, symbolising fertility, prosperity, and new beginnings.
Notice the details: almond-shaped eyes, arched brows, the auspicious tilaka marking a married woman, and intricate hair ornaments on her head. Each feature speaks to a tradition of devotion and care.
She was tended to. She was adorned. She was returned to, year after year.
