The E-Marketplace for chillies implemented by Kalgudi represents a pivotal shift in how smallholder dry chilli farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana engage with the market, by bridging traditional agricultural practices with modern digital solutions. As a partner of the E-Mircha project of Digital Green, Kalgudi created a dynamic platform that addresses several key challenges faced by the Chilli farmers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The project contributed towards promoting sustainable dry chilli production, creating awareness, providing advisories and ultimately boosting yields and quality. This inturn helped farmers achieve better price realization. We employed a phygital model to successfully enable the marketplace, which included conducting buyer-seller meets, listing of stocks both at the farmer and at the FPO levels, facilitating sample collection, and field visits for on-site inspection by traders.
The integration of both physical and digital elements in transactions has led to improved price realizations and better market access for chilli farmers. The project's success in blending traditional market practices with digital tools serves as a model for enabling equitable market places.
