The World of Electronic Commerce
With the world of computers making rapid strides,
the world has shrunk, becoming a global village.
E-mail, E-commerce and E-business have conquered
the world.
Microsoft head Bill Gates talks of Business at the Speed of Light using a credit- card size PC. The Information Technology sector has advanced by leaps and bounds.
As a film song echoes, ‘We adapt ourselves to the
changing day-to-day fashion.’
Today even the common man sports a cell phone in his hand. A new culture has sprung up. A new change is seen in the lifestyle of the 21st century man. But humaneness, mutual regard and civil behaviour are all on the decline. The world is dominated by mutual depression, panic, unholy speed, a sense of hurry, exhaustion, tussles, hesitation, competition,
aggressive behaviour,
a g i t a t i o n a n d frustration.
Wherever one c a n se e , t he re a re increase in diseases. New types of diseases spring up everyday.
Some form of war/fight goes on in many parts of the world. It is filled with religious/ communal problems, caste, regional and language problems and national issues. Palestine-Israel fight, US-Iraq wars, North- South Korean quarrel, Indo-Pak mistrust and, above all, terrorist threats are rendering the world asunder. Moreover the very environment is getting polluted. Under these circumstances the Law of the jungle - “The survival of the fittest,” only prevails.
Polluted Environment
It is reported that the water level in the oceans has risen by an inch and that the atmospheric temperature has gone up by half a degree. Recently, even in a cold country like Switzerland, around 20,000 people were reported dead due to a heat wave. Industrial
effluents pollute water sources and industrial toxic smoke
pollutes the air.
At this juncture, the lines of poet Kannadasan come to the mind.
“Look! All that Nature created, the cursed Man has
wasted (has segregated)”.
Population is multiplying day by day. Man is just
struggling to survive. In the US, spirituality has not grown
to the extent of science.
Sri Krishna declares in the Gita- “Intellect has been blunted by our ignorance. Hence the society has lost happiness. Man has got drowned in sorrow.”
Nobody seems to know what true progress is. This is exactly why people come to India, the land of spiritual greatness.
They become interested in India’s spiritual science. One
of these sciences is the “Art of Cosmic Energy.”
By maintaining equipoise, equanimity even in the face of adversity, man can learn to channelise the energy lying dormant within himself, thereby attaining Peace. Learning this art becomes imperative especially at this critical point of time. As the great Saint Valluvar says,
“Come! Lets us lead a deathless life. I am not lying, I am not making it up. I state the Truth.”
This is the way to the immortal life. This is the Truth.
Where is Peace?
Science has progressed multifold. But if one ponders as to whether the quality of life has gone
up, the answer would be a disappointing ‘No.’ In fact, it is going further downhill. Peace is conspicuously absent. There is no mutual affection/intimacy in family life. Society, too, is found wanting in justice, integrity, righteousness and Truth.
People tend to justify their wrongdoings by claiming that those who take up unjust paths prosper. This situation prevails not only in the cities but also in rural areas.
As poet Kannadasan says, “There’s war in the shadow of the Truth; There’s war in the lap of Mother Dharma.”
Twenty years ago very few houses had a television. Those days, people were quite happy with one TV channel. But today, there are at least a hundred channels and some houses have more than one TV box, as different members of the same family want to view different channels. Even the same viewer does not stick to watching one channel and keeps surfing channels. The TV remote gets constantly abused. Man is still not satisfied. Has scientific advancement brought about positive changes in lifestyle? Has it brought happiness to man? These vital questions are left unanswered. In this era of Information Technology, people are pregnant with information. Man is bombarded with information. But is all such information relevant to our lives? Luxury items can be bought but happiness cannot be purchased. Medicines can be purchased but
health cannot be. As a film song precisely puts it -
“Where’s peace? Where is peace? Where is peace? I’d like a place there”
“Man yearns for such peace and is still seeking it.”
