We believed all the advice.
Planned for everything we could control.

Before our 1300 km road trip, we packed extra clothes, water, healthy snacks, child-friendly stops, and our quiet time bag for the long car rides and restaurant waits.

And still…
things got messy. Overwhelming. Out of hand at times.

What actually helps is knowing this beforehand:

it’s okay if it’s messy.
It’s okay if it’s hard.

Because when the meltdowns come, you have to show up.
And showing up isn’t just about what you pack for your child,
it’s also about taking care of yourself.

Rest when you can. Eat properly. Slow down when needed.
Because a calm child often needs a calm adult first.
And sometimes, that means stepping back for a moment
and letting small supports do their job.

Travel with kids isn’t about perfect plans.
It’s about being prepared for imperfection.

We learned this the hard way.
