Lily and Val lived in a place that was neither fully here nor fully gone—a strange space caught between worlds, where time felt frozen and the sky never chose between day or night.
Above them, clouds drifted in shades of gray and gold. Below their feet was a land made of fragments—pieces of old memories, broken doorways, floating staircases, and gardens growing through cracked stone.
They had been trapped there for what felt like forever.
Not by accident, but because of the chaos left behind by a man who wanted control over everything.
A father whose anger had spread like fire.
He wasn’t powerful because of magic or strength, but because destruction had become his language. Wherever he went, things fractured—homes, trust, love, peace. He tore through lives the way storms tear through forests, leaving silence and damage behind.
Lily had spent years trying to hold things together.
Val spent years trying to understand why everything kept falling apart.
Together, they wandered this in-between world, searching for a way forward while shadows of the past followed them like ghosts.
“This place only exists because we keep carrying what was broken,” Lily whispered one evening as they stood before a mirror lake reflecting stars that didn’t belong to any sky.
Val looked into the water and finally understood.
The father had tried to destroy everything around him, but the deeper wound was how destruction lingered long after he was gone. It built walls inside people. It convinced them they were stuck.
But being trapped was not the same as being destined to stay there.
For the first time, Lily stepped toward the edge of the lake.
The water shimmered.
A doorway of light slowly began to rise from beneath the surface.
“How?” Val asked.
Lily smiled softly. “By realizing he does not get to decide how our story ends.”
The ground beneath them trembled as the old world began to crack apart—not from violence this time, but from release.
The floating ruins faded.
The gray sky opened.
Warmth touched their faces for the first time.
Hand in hand, Lily and Val walked toward the doorway, leaving behind the in-between place that had held them captive for too long.
Behind them was everything that tried to break them.
Ahead of them was something unfamiliar.
