This artwork holds a truly special meaning for me.
The two sculptures were meant to stand face-to-face—two birds crossing paths in mid-air, with my daughter on one of them, stretching her arms out, eager to fly back into my embrace.
But because of the physical limits of the exhibition space, they were ultimately displayed flying in the exact same direction.
What I initially thought was a slight pity unexpectedly unfolded into an even more touching story.
The collector who visited the exhibition and purchased these pieces offered a brand-new, beautiful interpretation of this scene:
“From my perspective, I see the younger version of myself riding a bird, flying freely in the sky to chase after starlight. Next to her is also me, but the grown-up version.
The adult me has never forgotten her original aspirations; even though she has already reached the starlight, she still longs to fly free and continue her own journey.”
This “beautiful mistake” brought about by the constraints of the venue ended up breathing new life into the artwork. It serves as the most perfect footnote for “In Between Moments” (當下之間)—
Half of an artwork’s soul is given by the creator, while the other half is co-created with the viewer in the present moment.
