Types of placenta placement in pregnancy

1. Anterior Placenta

Attached to the front wall of the uterus (facing your belly).

Sometimes cushions baby’s kicks in early months, so you may feel movement later than someone with a posterior placenta.

Very common and normal.

2. Posterior Placenta

Attached to the back wall of the uterus (closer to your spine).

Many women feel kicks earlier because there’s less cushion between baby and belly.

Also completely normal.

3. Fundal Placenta

Attached to the top part of the uterus.

Can be slightly tilted forward (anterior fundal) or backward (posterior fundal).

Normal and safe position.

4. Lateral Placenta

Attached to the side wall of the uterus (left or right).

Also considered normal, just a variation.

5. Low-lying Placenta / Placenta Previa

Placenta is close to or covering the cervix (the opening of the womb).

This may cause bleeding in pregnancy and can affect delivery.

Sometimes in early pregnancy, the placenta looks low, but as the uterus grows, it often “moves up” and no longer causes problems.
