What's on your mind? It asks... Well...
A few changes over the last month with Definitive Baits, and it's all down to one bait... Fermentadore...
This bait has been a pain from the off. Firstly I had a supplier in Korea with one vital ingredient. I have been using this ingredient for a good while over the years, on and off, here and there, and playing with it as I went. After finally deciding to build a bait around it, and knowing full well it wasn't an ingredient that anyone was using in any of the main bait companies, and probably not even in the smaller companies or even shed based bait makers, I jumped in and made the Fermentadore. This really should have been my crowning glory as far as bait making goes. That was until two months into testing, the Korean company stopped producing the ingredient... F**k my life.
Two months later, and I'd found another company that was producing it, this time in Thailand. I quickly ordered a few samples making sure I ordered them a few weeks apart just to test consistency, only to note straight away that the product was not consistent at all. Thickness, colour, consistency and taste varied massively between the samples so I had to bite the bullet and remove the Fermentadore from my shop for the second time in only a few months. I'm still looking for this ingredient, but not feeling optimistic of getting exactly what I want, but you never know...
Stage two started when I decided to use the rest of the Fermentadore mix, but add liquid hydros to create the attraction, but TBH, that mix (I called Aquatica due to its high fish based products) was short lived, not for any reason other than I just wasn't happy with it. I felt there could be more, I could get more, and the bait as a whole could offer more... So as fast as the Aquatica hit the shop, it came down again.
It's now onto stage three, and this time it's getting the full test treatment rather than just knowing through experience what it can do, so will be going through plenty of changes before it gets near the shop again. Fermentadore caught, as did Aquatica, but Fermentadore fell on its face, and Aquatica wasn't quite right, so now I'll keep hammering at it until I feel I've got it right, and I can't do anymore to it.
Both it's previous incarnations were made to fit in with my kind of fishing, big ponds, low stocks, and questionable mentality, so this new one needs to fill that quota, with no questions left unanswered.
Wish me luck as another year of testing on stupid waters gets underway...
