According to People Management Magazine, - over half of employers (55%) would not be willing to hire someone with a conviction. The discrimination and stigma around hiring an ex-prisoner is still pervasive, which is why the Employment Network (SMEN) was formed.
It aims to connect women both currently in prison via Release-On-Temporary-License, and post-release with meaningful stable employment.
SMEN partners with employers, Probation services and prisons to create a structured pathway to employment. The key focus is also to educate employers and to challenge stigma around hiring women with convictions.
