Evocative Cornwall

Evocative Cornwall Inspired by Cornwall, made in Cornwall Cornish products - for those who love Cornwall, wherever they may be. Tide times are included for locals and visitors.

Evocative Cornwall has been trading since 2004, and is currently owned by Pen & Ewan McClymont. We sell on-line, by mail order and in selected Cornish retailers (see website for details). Our flagship product, the Evocative Cornwall calendar, brings together photographers from across the Duchy, and promotes local events and festivals, as well as the Cornish language. Our greetings cards, Christmas

cards, Cornish Language cards and address book all feature the beauty of the Cornish landscape. We felt very strongly that a business with Cornwall at its centre should be exactly that, so we are proud members of the Made in Cornwall accreditation scheme, Surfers Against Sewage Plastic Free Champions and work with as many local businesses as we can. 10% of profit each year is shared among a wide range of Cornish charities. We have regular special offers for customers and a 20% discount for new customers who sign up to our newsletter - link on home page.

Well, considering it was ‘blowing a hoolie’ on Saturday and we were on an exposed headland, I’m quite pleased with the pictures I got of this Chough!

It was so windy, birds generally were largely taking cover on the ground. Many were perfectly plain as we walked along the paths - mindful not to disturb them, although the choughs certainly didn’t seem to think they needed to extend the courtesy the other way! A pair landed practically at our feet. They were almost blowing over, and I was struggling to hold the lens steady, so delighted the shots came out as well as they did. And nice to see a bit of Polly Joke sand in the background.

Had a wonderful walk to visit the beavers last week, with Kernow Conservation CIC at Trewithen Gardens, Nr Truro. Beavers, as I’m sure you know (but I did not), are nocturnal, so no sign of them. We were able to see their very impressive lodge however, and learn a lot more about them, and the water voles that had also been released nearby.

As it turned out I did get two firsts for me in wildlife spotting terms (you’ll have gathered by now I’m no expert!). We had a wonderful aerial display by red kites, and spotted a hare - both of which I thought weren’t resident in Cornwall. The hare, to be fair, was doing an excellent impersonation of a large rabbit, until he ran off and his ears were all wrong. I suspect a large number of rabbit pictures are now called for until I get better at spotting the difference …

Beautiful walk out to The Rumps - and greeted by a haze of blue. Tiny Spring Squill carpeting the cliffs. Set the turquoise water off perfectly!
