Why are collagen chews good for dogs?

If your dog loves a good chew, collagen chews are definitely worth knowing about!
They’re a natural source of collagen and protein, and they can make a great alternative to some of the more heavily processed chews out there.

So what are the benefits?

We’ve officially had enough of Allan. 😂

There comes a point in every working relationship where you simply have to ask yourself… is it really worth keeping him?

Sammi and Carley decided the answer was no. So naturally, the only sensible solution was to put Allan in a bin bag and start throwing him about the place. Very professional. Very mature. Exactly what you’d expect from the Pets & Aquatics department. 😂

Allan has since been released and we can confirm he has learned absolutely nothing from the experience.

No managers were harmed in the making of this video… although Allan’s dignity may have taken a bit of a beating. 😂

DISCLAIMER: Please don’t try this at home 🙈 and we definitely don’t recommend putting bags over anyone’s head. This was all staged and done purely for a laugh.

What causes algae? 🌿

We get a fair few people popping in with algae problems wanting to know how to get it under control and have their tanks looking crystal clear again so let's talk about why it happens.

There are a few common reasons algae can start building up in your aquarium:

1. Too much light – Keep your aquarium lights to around 6 hours maximum per day.

2. Direct sunlight – Tanks placed near windows can receive too much natural light, which can encourage algae growth.

3. Overfeeding – Uneaten food breaks down and adds nutrients to the water, feeding algae.

4. Excess waste – Fish waste and other organic matter can contribute to algae growth

5. Too few plants – Live plants compete with algae for nutrients.

Keep your lighting to 6 hours maximum, avoid overfeeding, carry out weekly water changes and regularly clean the glass and décor and you should see an improvement.

🐟 Keyhole Cichlids

Often overlooked, Keyhole Cichlids are peaceful, gentle fish with loads of personality.

They’re a great choice for a community aquarium and are known for their subtle colours and distinctive dark marking behind the eye.

They appreciate plenty of hiding places, plants and driftwood, with open swimming space too. Keep them with other peaceful tank mates and they’ll happily settle into aquarium life.

🌿 Barley straw… what’s it actually doing in your pond?

It’s not just floating around looking rustic! 😂

Barley straw can help naturally reduce algae growth in ponds as it breaks down in the water.

As it decomposes, it releases compounds that can make the pond less favourable for algae, helping to keep the water looking clearer and fresher. 🌱💧

It’s particularly useful as part of a natural pond maintenance routine, alongside good filtration, plenty of plants and sensible stocking levels.

And the best bit? No fancy chemicals needed. Just a bit of barley straw doing its thing. 👌
