A few people have asked how to rig our dead bait trolling keels so we rigged an example that would be suitable for Halibut in Norway or Wahoo, Kingfish and even big Mahi mahi in warmer waters.
The double hook rig is best suited to species that are to be kept but if you're intending to release then a single larger hook would be more suitable.

One of our regular customers sent us this example of a shark leader that’s brought him a lot of success with both blue sharks & porbeagle sharks when fishing off Cornwall and South Wales.
He uses a size 13/0 Eagle Claw L2004 circle hook to 3 feet of 1.6 mm wire linked to 15 feet of 2.0 mm monofilament by a size 6/0 500 lb Crane swivel, with a further 6/0 Crane swivel at the top end. All connections are double crimped and the monofilament is finished with Offshore loop knots for abrasion resistance.
For added visual attraction he adds a 5 inch octopus skirt and a brightly coloured rattle which also provides auditory stimulus for sharks to home in on.
He tells us that he uses a sinker on the main line above the leader which allows the leader to flow out and move naturally in the tide.
All very well constructed, we’d like to meet the shark that could break this.

This arrived this morning. It's a transducer made by US company Airmar and is a real serious lump of a transducer. It's a 1 Kw unit weighing over 2.7 Kg which should show clear bottom images at up to 1500 feet.
We'll need an electric reel with plenty of line!

We had a great time in Angola at the Lobito Sailfish Classic. The sailfish were thin on the ground but a few were caught along with some nice blue marlin, mahi mahi and wahoo. We also caught a bonus small mako on a trolled lure.
Spike caught this lovely blue but sadly on a practice day before the competition so didn't get us any points!

We'll be away for a few days from Saturday 21st March - Wednesday 1st April. We're fishing in the Lobito Billfish Classic in Lobito, Angola where they have world record size Sailfish at this time of year.

We won't be shipping any orders received during this period until Friday 3rd April so if you have any urgent requirements please place your orders this week and we'll see that they get shipped before we leave.
