6th Jun 2026 :: Tenth Legion workshop tour

Okay, this is most definitely not 10mm as such, but with our 6mm heads on, the Tenth Legion team will be organising the Joy of Six show. (www.joysofsix.co.uk).

So, why am I bleating on about this here? There are two reasons: Firstly, we know that many 10mm gamers dabble in 6mm and vice versa, so to those brave souls who swing both ways, this is a prompt that if you are attending the show you can place a 10mm order to collect on the day. Secondly, and for those of you who live near enough to Sheffield, on June 27th we will be throwing our doors open and doing tours around the workshop. This is a rare chance to see how your little men come into being, from initial concept to final production. New starter sets from Tenth Legion

Many thanks to all of you who dropped by for a chat at a very busy Partizan wargames show. It’s always a pleasure to chat with wargamers and I got some very positive feedback which seemed to boil down to the following:

‘So THAT’s what happened to the Magister Militum ranges!’
‘These are actually really nice figures!’ (Said with an air of surprise.)
‘They look much nicer than the photos.’
‘Are these compatible with Pendraken?’ (The inevitable question.)
Will you be doing army packs?

All in all, an interesting bunch of comments, to which the answers are;

The eventual aim is to feature army or starter packs for most nations across all periods. To mark the completion of the first group of refurbished codes on the Tenth Legion Napoleonic ranges, we’ve released three starter armies for the Austrian, British and French.

These packs normally sell for £59 (£49.17 for buyers outside the UK), which is a discounted price vis a vis buying all the constituent parts at full price. However, to mark this first group of releases we are offering them for just £55.00 (45.83 outside the UK). On top of that we will also be throwing in an appropriate flag sheet worth £2.35 for free!

This offer will continue until 29/05/26 at which point it will revert to its normal price, so if you fancy dipping your toes in the deep, dark and probably crocodile infested waters of Napoleonic Wargaming then this is a great way to start.

Just a quick note to sat that we will be at the Partizan show in Newark on Sunday 14th May. Although trading under the Baccus banner, we will have some of the Tenth Legion 10mm stuff on display and a small stock available for purchase on the day. If you want us to bring anything along, please do get in touch with us and we will have them there ready for collection.

Ournex show is, of course, the Joy of Six on June 28th. I know this is for little men, a wee bit smaller than 10mm, but I know that a lot of gamers use both scales, and, to be honest it is a cracking show and well worth a visit. As with any show, you can also order from the 10mm ranges for collection on the day.

On the Saturday prior to the show, we will be holding our infamous Baccus Open Day workshop tours. The morning session is pretty much booked up, but we do have spaces left for the afternoon tour. What we do is show the process by which we design and produce the little soldiers and we attract visitors who use wargames figures across the scale. To kick off, a quick note to say that we will be attending the wonderful Partizan wargames in Newark on 17th May. Although we will most mostly be wearing our Baccus hats, we will have a 10mm section on the stand and will be happy to talk 10mm and show off some of the stuff that we have planned to be released over the coming months. If you want us to bring something along just let us know and we will have it ready for you to collect.

I’ve been banging the drum for our newly remoulded Napoleonic figures and the new gun and equipment models, but please bear with me as I am genuinely excited by how nicely these have turned out. Having showcased the French in the last post, here are some stalwart British foot artillery crewing a 9pdr. Loads more like this to come, including a rather nice rocket cart and crew…

More new artillery bits from Tenth Legion

And it’s STILL Napoleonics stuff, but we will be moving on for those of you who fancy a bit of spear and shield action.

We’ve been concentrating on updating our Napoleonic ranges in general and the artillery in detail. We have been focussing on the armies of Austrian, Great Britian and France. We inherited some gorgeous crew figures from Magister Militum, but we thought that the actual guns and accompanying equipment needed an upgrade to match their quality.

As a result, all the three nations listed above now have completely new artillery pieces across all calibres and now have matching limbers and caissons. These really are superb models from the hands of master of his craft, and we are delighted to add them to the range. I’ve added a couple pictures of the new pieces ‘in action’ and one of a comparative shot of the French Gribeauval 8pdr and 12 pdr. Both share the same carriage but very differently sized barrels.

On the Tenth Legion workbench

This week, I’d like to share a behind-the-scenes photo with you of our mould maker's workbench. This is usually a litter of various bits and pieces, but this time Andrew has excelled himself in both the diversity and the number of projects on the go.

Each of these groups of strips and pile of bits represents a mould waiting to be pressed. It gives a nice snapshot of what will be coming down the road over the coming few weeks and months. If you’ve actually been keeping up with our progress you may remember that we’re in the middle of a massive overhaul of the Napoleonic infantry codes. That process is actually nearing completion and the sharp-eyed among you may be able to spot piles of limbers and some rather nice British rocket carts. These are all brand new models.

The massed strips that you see filling the bench includes Achaemenid Persian infantry, Republican Romans, various Ancient Greek infantry types and, just to keep our hand in, Napoleonic artillery crew. In all these cases we have used the original MM master figures to give us lovely sharp castings from the new moulds. The next few months are going to be very busy for us.

Just to show you what I mean here are a couple of photos of the new Napoleonic Austrian artillery models released a couple of weeks ago. The crew are the original models, remoulded and cleaned up, while the guns are brand new models, and if I say so myself, they really do scrub up nicely.

New Napoleonic releases

I am absolutely delighted to mark a real milestone in our work on overhauling and representing the Magister Militum Napoleonic range. Firstly, the Austrian infantry codes have now all been converted to strip format. This means that of the ‘Big Five’ nations of the Napoleonic war we are over half way, with just the Russians and Prussians to do.

We are now also able to provide the new format artillery pieces for the Austrian, British and French armies. The Austrians get 4pdr, 6dr, 12pdr and howitzer in both foot and cavalry versions. The French get 4pdr, 6dr, 8pdr, 12pdr and howitzer, and the British 6pdr, 9pdr and howitzer. Not only are these new models pin sharp and beautifully modelled we’ve taken the opportunity to plug a few holes in what had previously been available.

Put together this constitutes a major upgrade in the quality and presentation of these lovely models, but also makes what is being offered more comprehensive in coverage.

But, we are not stopping there. The patterns have already been made for the Prussians and Russians to join the party, along with their redesigned artilley. We are also working on the equipment side of things with limbers, caissons, carts and forges all scheduled to be added to the lists in the coming weeks.

Finally, just to prove that we know that there is life outside of the Napoleonic wars, we are well on with preparations to get stuck into the more popular side of the Ancients ranges. Visitors to the Tenth Legion section of the Baccus site will have seen at first hand some of the prototype Greek and Hellenistic strips we’ve had on show.

It’s going to be a busy year!

On a personal note, I have always loved painting the Austrian army of the Napoleonic wars. It was my favourite when I painted the display models for Baccus in 6mm. These were no exception. A much under-rated army which looks outstanding on the tabletop.

One of the main reasons why we at Tenth Legion have not just made the entire Magister Militum catalogue available is that we have to check each and every mould. Sadly, not all of them will work perfectly on our casting machines and with our alloys. Some are worn, or are prone to excessive flashing.

As a result we are taking the time to work through them range by range, and, if needed make new moulds. As I posted earlier, we are working on the Napoleonic ranges, starting with the infantry. The next stage in the process has been to overhaul the artillery, and, after long debate we have decided to start from scratch with brand new models. Here’s a look at the master models ahead of their introduction to a couple of mould blanks.

As you can see, these will be outstanding pieces of Napoleonic equipment. Shown in the photo are French 8/12pdr/carriage, 4pdr carriage, Hribeauval limber, Horse artillery/AnsXI limber and carriage, caisson, assorted barrels and various sized wheels.
No release date yet, but I hope to see some of these out next month.

What inevitably cannot survive contact with reality?

Yes, the best laid plans.

Our plan for this week was to continue our assault on the order backlog and bring the waiting time on orders down to a few days rather than a few weeks. It was a good plan. Sadly, there were other forces at work. Monday night saw us making a nocturnal visit to Sheffield Children's Hospital as our son was having breathing difficulties. He was admitted and at the time of writing is still there, although we are hoping that he will be discharged in the next couple of days.

As Lindy and I are the team that run Tenth Legion this has naturally had a big knock-on effect with the business, as at least one of us has been with him round the clock. While we have been able to get a decent number of orders cast, we have not been able to invoice and process them.

On behalf of both of us, we can only apologise, but we hope that you understand. Our plan is to get stuck into the pile of cast orders first thing next week and pick up on the original strategy, but should this not be the cast, we will let you know once we have a better idea.
