New workshop - Starting your own cut flower garden. On the 5th September at the Flower Garden Log Cabin Llanrhaeadr Denbighshire.

Link for booking: https://flowergarden.florist/event/starting-your-own-cut-flower-garden/

If you've ever wanted to grow your own flowers for cutting, September is the moment to begin. Autumn-sown seeds produce stronger, earlier, more abundant plants than anything sown in spring — and this course shows you exactly how to do it.

Join Catherine, founder of Flower Garden Florist, and experienced grower Helen from The Smithy Gardens for a friendly morning in our Flower Garden Log Cabin. This is the first stage in learning to develop your own cutting garden, and it's focused entirely on what you can do right now, in early September, to get a year ahead.

Everything we teach follows sustainable, eco-friendly, no-chemical principles — the same way we grow our own Welsh flowers here at Flower Garden Florist, in the spirit of .

What You'll Learn

Which flowers are best suited to early autumn sowing, and why they perform so well
How to sow and germinate successfully in September
Caring for young plants through the winter — practical methods whether or not you have a greenhouse
What to do with your seedlings come early spring
How to work with the space you actually have, from a few pots to a full plot
Sustainable, chemical-free growing practices throughout

Make and Take Home

We'll finish by making a small seasonal arrangement in a bud vase using flowers grown here in the cutting garden — yours to take away.
You'll be sowing your first September seeds in trays to take home.
Handouts - September sewing guide with useful information we've covered in the course from what seeds to grow, when to grow and where to get your seeds from.

A Relaxed, Supportive Morning

This is a small, friendly group with plenty of time for questions. Bring details of your own garden or growing space and we'll talk through what will work for you specifically. No experience needed — this course is designed for complete beginners.

One of the most common things I get asked about is how to grow your own cutting garden — and honestly, it is one of the most rewarding things you can do! Just look at what's growing here right now: beautiful pink and peachy antirrhinum snapdragons, the most gorgeous cosmos in soft blush and pink, rich magenta gomphrena globe amaranth, and deep velvety red snapdragons still coming through with so many buds to come.

I'm so happy to be putting together with my good friend and very experienced grower Helen from the The Smithy Garden a 3.5 hour workshop that will teach you everything you need to know to get a really good early start on your own cutting garden this September from what to sow and when, to how to keep flowers coming all season long. It is going to be a lovely workshop no experience needed and I cannot wait to share it with you.

Drop me a message or email if you'd like to know more — spaces will fill up quickly!

The dahlias are looking so lovely this morning in the cutting beds — I had to stop and take a few photos before getting on with the day! We've got such a beautiful mix coming through right now: sunny yellows and soft peachy pompons jostling alongside the most vivid scarlet single-flowered varieties, and those deep crimson decoratives with layer after layer of petals. All grown right here in North Wales, no air miles, just Welsh sunshine and a bit of patience.

Do you have a favourite dahlia? Are you a jewel-toned deep red kind of person, or do you go for the bright and cheerful yellows and oranges? Let me know in the comments, I'm always curious! 🌸

Today has been all about cutting for drying — and what a lovely basket came together from the cutting garden. There's antique hydrangea heads just turning that gorgeous dusky pink and green, bright yellow craspedia buttons, rich magenta lythrum, and some wonderfully spiky pink limonene — all grown right here in North Wales with no air miles at all.

Drying flowers is one of my favourite things at this time of year — you get to hold on to summer just a little bit longer. I'd love to know, do you dry flowers at home? And if so, what's your favourite to dry? Drop your answer in the comments — I'm always looking for new ideas! 🌸
