Hey everyone! If you're driving in the UK, it's essential to ensure that your vehicle's number plate is road legal. Having an illegal plate can lead to severe consequences, and it's better to be informed than to face unexpected penalties. Here's a quick rundown on what you need to know:

Characteristics of a Road Legal Number Plate:

Correct size and spacing of letters and numbers.

Legible and readable from a distance.

Meets the British Standards (BS AU 145e).

Displayed in the correct format (white on the front, yellow on the rear, both with black characters).

No alterations or misrepresentations of characters.

Consequences of an Illegal Number Plate:

We are often asked why a number plate has a BSAu 145e marker on it?

The "BS AU 145e" marker on a UK number plate indicates that the plate complies with the latest British Standard for number plates, introduced in September 2021. This standard ensures that number plates are more durable, readable, and resistant to tampering. Key features include:

Improved durability: Plates must withstand abrasion, impact, and extreme weather conditions.

Enhanced readability: Solid black characters are required, with no shading or 3D effects, to aid Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems.

Stronger materials: Plates must resist cracking, peeling, or damage over time.

Tighter regulations: Decorative features like patterns or coloured tints are no longer allowed.
